About 2 weeks ago my daughter had a tick attached to her head. We removed it with tweezers and as far as I know we got the "head" out, after we removed it, there was a red bump on the area, now there is still a bump, it is smaller than it was and is not red anymore but it is hard. Also last night at bed time she started to complain of a headache ( she has never complained of a headache before) and I asked her to point to where it hurt and she pointed to an area close to the tick bite, then I asked her if it just hurt to touch or if it hurt inside her head, she said inside her head like it was pounding, then about 15 minutes later she said that it went away, then another 15 minutes she said that it hurt again, I took her temp, it was normal. She went to bed and woke up this morning and she said that she felt fine.
Should I take her to the dr. to get tested for lyme or any other disease that ticks carry? BTW I live in Iowa.

Did you save the tick?If not, next time you need to save the tick in a bottle with a wet cotton ball...then they can test the tick to see what it has.I would go to the doc and get her checked ,just in case.Good luck to you..ps if you decide not to go to the doc, watch for a bulls eye at the tick bite site. That's not always present, but a good indicator.

Well I have Lyme disease and I never saw the tick or the bite. I have become very ill and I have a PICC line and have to give myself IV injections of antibiotics at home. Lyme disease is a complex problem. Even though I suffer from it I am not an expert yet.

Based on what I know and if this happened to my child, I would not walk out of the doctors office without an antibiotic. It is prob to soon to test her, since she was just bitten. You can get more than one disease from a single bite. Make sure that the doctors take you seriously and give her something. If they don't go to someone who will. A lot of doctors are clueless! Do not mess with this disease, it is the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with. Check out lymenet.org, this is a good website and the people there are really helpful and will offer expert advice. Good luck! Please let us know what happens!

I had to deal with my first tick bite a few years ago. Generally, if it's lyme disease, or rocky spotted mountain fever, then it will look like a bullseye with rings around the initial bite wound.

I would still recommend getting your daughter checked out by a doctor, but the doc I went to had a comment for the red puncture spot. Sometimes, the trauma of the tick bite, along with the trauma of pulling it out can cause the bite mark to last for several weeks. She may permanently scar there. My red spot took about four months to disappear, and I was suffering from an unrelated fever at the time.

I'd get it checked out to ease your conscience, but I wouldn't worry too much. First bites are traumatic on the skin, apparently.

I have had such a lot of tick bites I misplaced depend. Mine continually itch plenty. If it truthfully hurts and does not itch it would be inflamed. Did you get the top out? That is the most important factor and frequently it's tough to inform. If you're involved approximately it I could pass see the health care professional. I continually fear approximately getting lyme disorder each time I get a tick however that's lovely infrequent.

Yes, please consult your doctor. A friend of mine pulled her tick out, developed symptoms of Lyme disease (and has it) and it took years before a doctor would take it seriously.

There are such things as false negative to Lyme tests. So, if your daughter continues to have symptoms, please do not let it go, even if, especially if, the docs say she's fine.

There are areas of moderate risk for Lyme disease in Iowa.

There are two professional websites:

idsociety.org and ilads.org

I pasted a link from idsociety.org below about Lyme Disease

Good Luck, best wishes.

Glad you're going to the doctor, but be advised that many doctors don't really know very much about Lyme. Do watch for a bull's-eye rash--but know that you could have Lyme and NOT have this particular symptom. Good sources of info about Lyme: lymeinfo.net, lymenet.com, ilads.org. Good luck.

Yes you need to get the bite checked out. Just in case. It's better to be safe when it comes to ticks.

YES. Please get her tested. Even if nothing is detected, better safe than sorry (this will ONLY get a lot worse if it's Lyme disease).

Good luck to you both.
