First, puppy really should be at least 8 wks old. A travel certificate will be required as all shots for that age puppy and a health exam will also be reguired. You must have a crate for the pet. Is it going far north in Canada? Check with the weather. If it is going to a very chilly climate, you might want to wait as the puppy can/will sit on the tarmak with all the other luggage to get loaded. How long is the flight? Is it crate trained or will it be covered with poo when the new owner gets it? Also, the puppy will be in the hold on the plane with the other luggage and no matter what the weather, the hold is freezing (with no heat in in, when the plane is in flight, so make sure you give the puppy lost of blankets to cuddle with. I have seen dogs shipped from Scotland, Germany and other countries to where I am in Florida and have all made the trip fine. Good luck!!

I know people who have successfully done this. I also know of one who picked up a dead puppy too.

Many airlines will not transport animals in hot weather so that maybe a problem, but I think a couple do. That would be for the breeder to find out.

I honestly would not buy a puppy sight unseen though. You see so many people getting conned this way.

A good friend of mine bought what was supposed to be a Chihuahua puppy from Arizona. Had it shipped to Canada. It was nothing like the puppy she thought she was getting. It's obviously a Chi mix at best. It's just like a Jack Russel... only bigger. He's 9 months old and 22lbs!

For your own safety I would not buy a puppy you have not seen before purchase and met the breeder and see what enviroment the little one is coming from.

Some breeders do ship puppies. As long as the pup has the required shots and health certificates (which are not cheap) they are usually okay to fly as long as the flight is direct without any transfers. The main thing you have to worry about when shipping a puppy is delays and dehydration. I personally would never get a puppy without seeing the parents, the breeder's facility and the puppy before I buy. You are better off planning a road trip and just go to pick your pup up.

I have had dogs shipped to me from the States quite a few times, as well as shipped my puppy's to new homes in the States, and have not ever had a problem. The airline staff take care of the dogs travelling with them.

When you're expecting a dog in, call ahead to let staff know there's a dog on that particular flight, in my experience, they've been really good about unloading a dog first.

First you need to check with the Airline or Alternate way of travel what is the criteria needed for shipping. Customs might also help with this. When live animals are shipped and are taken from Country to Country they have to have the required shots and vaccinations. Make sure this has been researched and adhered to. Try to have the animal put on a direct flight, no transfers or overnights. If all is followed you shouldn't have a problem.

Yes, but I would choose a direct flight if I could. Also check with the air line regulation since the weather is getting hotter and hotter. I would choose the first morning flight or last night flight. Make sure to SECURE puppy in cage, some time accident happens and I have heard a terrible thing such as cage broke off. Also ICE the water so that by the time he is in the air, ice will melt for him to drink water. Good luck to you.

Check out the flights to the area, because you can go pick it up yourself. Most breeders charge $250 to fly the dog. But if you go get it, and its a small puppy, - check with the airline for weight restriction, but i know it has to fit in a small travel carrier. If it fits in a small travel carrier, you can pick it up and carry the carrier onto the plane with you to take the dog home.

My friend did this to get her Malamute from Canada. Myself, I let the breeder send my dog to me from Oklahoma to New Jersey. The dog was perfectly fine. A little stressed, but an hour after I got her home, she was fine and forgot all about it. There were no problems at all.
