I colored my hair yesterday with permanent dye and it made it really dark brown, and I'm not happy with the results. I'm thinking about going to the hairdresser sometime this week to get it lightened to a light chocolate brown. Is it too soon? Will it damage my hair?

yes you can color it becuase you are going to the hairdressers to get it done... You are taking the smart decision. depending on the type of service the hairdresser performs you can determine if it will damage your hair... but there are many factors that some people dont realize that damage hair, heat styling, pollution, over shampooing etc.. so i advise you that post coloring your hair at the salon, keep your hair in good condition with deep conditioning treatments and take it easy with the heat styling and the over shampooing. Try to get a shampoo for colortreated hair and a conditioner that is moisturizing. Invest in a good quality shampoo and conditioner.. that makes a difference... When you use a quality product it equals quality hair. Good luck with your hair.. and if you need any advice on your hair.. speak to the hair dresser that is coloring your hair... she should be able to give you some tips on taking care of your hair and how you should keep up the color... :-)

You'd be better off asking them maybe to just add some highlights, rather than having another overall dye.

If you wait, and wash your hair a lot for the next week or so, your hair will lighten - really. And if your natural colour has warm tones (red) in it, these WILL come through in the next few weeks, and you'll end up with a lovely rich chocolate brown colour anyway! So I'd suggest you give it a bit more time.

I think a week is the waiting time, but its best not to redye so soon at all. Your color will probably fade a bit as you wash it, I'd give it a month, if you're still not happy with the color, then I'd go about lightening. I wouldn't want to trade lighter hair, for damaged hair!!

i would try and wait as long as you can if i was you - at least a week. using anti dandruff shampoo will take the colour out of it a lot, so try that. although there's not too much bleach etc dark hair dyes, using them too often will still damage your hair. saying that, i dye mine every month - last time, i re-dyed the bottom half black 2 days later and it's fine (although the dye never stays too well).

I would wait till you can get to a hairdresser. Don't go messing with your hair.

You may end up with something that looks horrid and damage your hair really bad.

as long as you visit a proffesional there will be no damage and it is not too soon. if you used a dye from a regular high street shop the colour will lighten after a few washes on its own.

You can do it, it will cause a bit of drying out of your hair though. It might be best to wait, as the color will most likely fade a bit in the next week anyways.

it depends on he amount of bleach in the original colour... i would think as it made you hair darker that it would be a very small amount....it should be fine to recolour....ask the hairdresser when you get there....
