In Holy Quran Allah (swt) has given the guidance as to the kind of food that is allowed and the food that is forbidden. No where is it mentioned that Muslims are not allowed to eat the food prepared by non-Muslim. Yes, what is forbidden is the food on which a name other then that of Allah is invoked.

It is perfectly alright for Muslims to eat food prepared by a Hindu family. Only the following points should be taken care of:
1. The food doesn't contain pork & alcohol.
2. The food doesn't contain meat that is forbidden or has been slaughtered in a forbidden manner.
3. The food has not been offered to Gods or prepared invoking the name(s) of Gods other than Allah (SWT)

If there is any doubt in the above matters, choose vegetarian or sea-food. Invoke Allah's (SWT) name & blessings on the food & enjoy the meal.

I'm no scholar, but as long as hte food doesn't contain pork, wine or meat that is haram(i.e.which is not slaughtered according to the islamic way), it is perfectly fine for muslims to eat food provided by people from any other religion..
there are many other categories of food that are forbidden in islam, such as blood, animals that are found dead etc., but i hardly think that these would be served on the dinner table..

Not at all. In Islam the prohibition on food is due to some "quality" of the food, not "quality" of the host or cook. So any food item which contains pork, wine, blood or any animal (chicken, duck, lamb, beef etc) which is not slaughtered as per the halaal way is forbidden for the muslims irrespective of te fact that who has cooked it.

It is halal to eat food prepared by Hindus unless they are not vegetarians. The majority of Hindus are. Make sure you ask your host if any meat products are used. I have yet to meet a practicing Hindu who consumes pork. The Majority of Hindus are considerate to others dietary needs. It is concidered haraam in Hinduism to drink wine also.

On top feeding one for free and then making sure his/her religion allows, is too much to ask for.
If Islam doesn't allow, you save the food for yourself. Good for you!

There are no restrictions as to who cooks the food as long as the food itself is halal
