My Mom's fibromyalgia pain is constant. All she does is cry and want someone to rub her knees and legs. Dad is losing sleep. Doctors have tried all types of pain relievers, nothing is happening. Yesterday, when I was massaging my mother's legs, it felt like she didn't have any flesh to them, just skin and bone. I'm really scared my mom is gonna leave us. Any suggestions for the constant, excrutiating pain. It comes with vengeance at nighttime.

Fibromyalgia is a term use when doctors don't know the reasons for a pain syndrome. The fact that your mom's pain is worse at night and in her legs is suggestive of peripheral neuropathy. Pain releivers do not work on nerve pain. She should try an anticonvulant like neurontin.

The pain of fibromyalgia is very severe at times, there are very few meds that do actually work, sometimes they will work for a few days, weeks or even months. I'm sorry to say at this time there isn't a cure and sadly most meds don't work. There is very little you can do to help, you have done everything you can. She needs to be able to rest as much as possible. Things like changes in the weather, stress, infections, etc will make the symptoms worse. There are lots of support websites on the Net who will be happy to give both you and your mom help, support and advice. Hope this helps Thinking of you and sending love

A doctor of rheumatology can possibly give your mother different medication to help along with prescribing physical therapy. A chiropractor is also very good at dealing with the problems of Fibromyalgia.
When you were massaging your mother the reason you felt no flesh is the muscles become like jello that's what makes the pain so incredible on the person with Fibromyalgia. I've had Fibromyalgia for 35 years and I know what it means To hurt.
Nutrition is very important with this condition as with any serious physical condition. Avoid caffeine products, sugar, processed foods and fried foods. Low blood sugar (Hypoglycemia) is often a factor in causing the person with Fibromyalgia to feel fatigued. That is why a good nutrition program is very important, eating frequent small meals with some protein is very important in keeping the blood levels even. The object of this is to prevent blood sugar starvation by keeping a certain amount of usable sugars constantly going into the bloodstream. Only the proteins needed by the body at the time of digestion are utilized as proteins-the rest are changed into sugar and burned as energy food, increasing blood sugar level.
Whole grains, seeds, nuts, yogurt, chicken, turkey, organic beef, eggs, natural cheese and cottage cheese should form the base of your diet. Accompanied by Appropriate vegetables and a minimum amount of fruit.
Every night have your mother take a hot bath with 2c. of dissolved Epsom salts. Soak for 30 minutes. The Epsom salts will help eliminate the lactic acid that forms on the muscles from Fibromyalgia.
Massage an analgesic cream into the sore muscles. I find the best cream for Fibromyalgia is “Blue Emu,” You can read more about this cream at http://www.blue-emu.com/
Dehydration can cause severe pain in the muscles. I recommend your mother drink purified water mixed with mineral water 50/50. This will replace the minerals that are exiting your body continuously.
I suggest that adults and children drink 40 ounces of water per 100 pounds of body weight every day
A good quality multi-vitamin is absolutely essential with this condition. It's important to replace what the body loses daily. If a person takes no other supplement but a multi-vitamin they're helping to support their body daily. 500mg of calcium and magnesium, taken twice daily, can help with diminishing the pain.
if you have any questions please contact me.

Hello,
I'm a medical researcher. Neuropathy is not a single disease instead, it is a complication found in a number of different underlying medical conditions. Seek medical care right away if you notice any unusual tingling, weakness or pain in your hands or feet. Early diagnosis and treatment offers the best chance for controlling your symptoms and preventing further damage to your peripheral nerves. If your symptoms interfere with your sleep or you feel depressed, your doctor or pain specialist may be able to suggest treatments that can help.
A good natural program I recommend to help you cure your neuropathy can be found here http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=569
Good Bye

I would recommend that your mom be seen by a Pain Management dr. Some of them offer on site massage therapy services and other things in addition to oral medicines. I don't know what medicines she's on or what dosages they are at but they may need to be readjusted or changed completely. A Pain Management dr can help with this.
If your mom is not under the care of a rheumatologist (these drs treat fibromyalgia) already please have her ask her primary care dr about sending her to one because they may have some additional ideas as well as helping her to get in to Pain Management.
Also, fibromyalgia patients tend to be prone to getting other health problems that can aggrivate the fibromyalgia further.
If you have other questions for me please feel free to e-mail or IM me away from the site.
