Basically all Phelps is doing, is not sugar coating what the bible teaches. Why is this a problem? Jesus DOES hate f*gs doesn't he?

Don't know about Phelps, don't watch the news, but I can tell you that Jesus doesn't hate anyone, he simply wants to show those who care to know which is the best way for us to live, like a loving parent. But just like children we can still choose to live another way. Parents don't hate their children if they choose to live a different way (or they shouldn't hate them) and it's the same with God.

Rev. Fred Phelps hates homosexuals, Jesus does not!

In fact if you read the Bible verses that Christians like Phelps use to say the homosexuality is wrong correctly these verses do no such thing. In fact there is not a single verse in the Bible that condemns homosexuality. See the Soulforce link below to see that this is so.

I love the Lord Jesus Christ, have been baptised in the Holy Spirit, and have gifts of the Spirit, and I am gay. So figure that one out!

In fact I saw a t-shirt with a gay slogan on it recently that I think summed up my point
"Will God condemn me for my love, or you for your hate?"

I am a proper Christian and haven't heard of Rev Fred Phelps. There is not a person alive that Jesus hates.

No, Jesus did not hate anybody. What Phelps is doing is TWISTING the Bible, not following it.

What I want to know is how in the WORLD Phelps and his congregation can possibly think they have the right to call themselves Baptists. I've NEVER met Baptists who are anything like them!

Jesus hates the sin, not the sinner. He died for all, regardless of who they are. However, as Paul says, if we are set free of sin by Jesus' sacrifice on the Cross, how can we live in it any longer? God's grace is not a place to wipe our dirty feet.

If we really believe what we say we believe, it should show in the way we act and live. When God's Word clearly says that a certain act is "an abomination" that is as strong as it gets! So, if you want to perform abominations, go ahead--but don't go around saying you're a Christian. The Word states clearly that it's not acceptable, so don't try to join a belief system and then force your criteria on it.

In another context, how far would you get joining a vegan society, say, and then trying to force them to acceptyour meat-eating preferences in the name of "equality?" Nowhere; they would tell you that yes, you can eat meat, but not around them!

I'm not really sure of his Christianity. I know he doesn't sound much like the Jesus I read about in Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. I do know he is a horrible person. The antics he and his followers are known for are the lowest form of democracy. I can only assume he was unbelievably abused as a child.

No. The bible teaches to love the sinner but hate the sin. Fred Phelps not only hates the sin but he hates the sinner too. Those very sinners that he hates are the sinners whom Christ died for.

I love this idea of ``proper`` Christians as opposed to improper ones always smacks of elitism to me, anyway Jesus never mentioned Homosexuality in His preaching but left matters like these to His future church, God does not like the act of homosexual relations but does not hate the actual person.

Jesus does NOT hate ANYBODY. Jesus loves all people. It is the SIN that is the problem!!! This is a very very common misunderstanding and misinterpretation.

Who as it pleases best thysel
Sends ane to heaven an' ten to hell
A' for thy glory
And no for ony gude or ill
