the reason i ask is:

god exists or he doesn't - I believe in him or I don't
if he doesn't exist then my destiny is the same if i believe/don't believe
if he exists and i don't believe then i don't go to "heaven"
so it is logical that i should believe
assuming i really believe -
but then if i believe in a false god that is bad too
so which is the right God

I would rather live my life believing there is a God, only to find out later that there is not, than to live my life as if there is not one, and find out later, that there is one......thanks
I cannot believe that I followed you in here!..oh what a tangled web we weave...

All of us are in the family of one God. It is not that there is one God in England, another in America, and still another in India. The Christians, Muslims and Hindus are not worshiping different Gods. The names Allah, Brahma, Jehovah, Krsna and Yahweh refer to the same God, called by different names according to differences in language and culture.

If we love the same one God, why do we quarrel? We quarrel because we don’t know what real love is. If we have true love and affection for the one Supreme Lord, we will naturally love each other. There is a saying, “God is love and love is God.” And in Indian Vedic culture there is a saying, “All should be happy.”

Jesus also taught this philosophy. He went to India when he as about sixteen years old, and he visited many places of pilgrimage, like Vrndavana, Ayodhya, South India and Jagannatha Puri. In Puri he saw the deities of Jagannatha, Baladeva and Subhadra, and he heard Lord Jagannatha (meaning “Lord of the Universe”) addressed as Krsna. In this part of India, the name Krsna is pronounced Kroosna. Because of different languages, Greek and Hebrew, this name became Kroosta, then Krista, and now it is pronounced Christ. Krsna, Kroosna, Krista and now Christ – they are the same.

In this universe there is only one God, and He is not Russian, English, German or Spanish. He knows all languages without difficulty, but there is actually no need of knowing them. There is only one real language in the entire world, and that language is called love. Eyes can speak that language, ears and hands can speak and understand it, and a glowing face can tell everything. God is one, and He is the embodiment of Love. Krsna is the original name of God, given in the ancient Vedas, and it means “the all-attractive reservoir of pleasure.” All other names, like Supersoul, Buddha, Allah and God, are included within Him.

All gods are false.

Nobody can prove any gods, much less a specific god, exist; many people will tell you their god exists but no others, but will never be able to prove it, even if they think so. Some will threaten you with eternal pain or promise eternal joy to get you to believe in their god; these are all stories, created for people who were scared long before we understood the universe. Now we have no more reason for these superstitions.

How terrible the bible in particular is:
http://www.skepticsannotatedbible.com/
http://www.evilbible.com/

What's the origin of the Jesus stories?
http://www.religioustolerance.org/chr_jcpa5.htm

How silly and horrible religion in general is:

The alternative:

http://www.positiveatheism.org/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unitarian_Universalism
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secular_humanism

And you're invoking pascal's wager:

"If god exists, it's infinitely better to believe, since you get heaven instead of hell for eternity. If he doesn't, it doesn't matter since you're dead anyway. So overall it's better to believe"

This is, of course, false.

Some of the problems with the argument:

* The implied assumption that god may exist (with a 50% probability, no less!)

* The assumption that there is an afterlife with a heaven and hell

* The assumption that the god cares about belief in him/her above all else

* The assumption that if you believe in a god, it will definitely be the same god that actually exists.

* The assumption that you lose nothing if it's false. You have lost a great deal, from time praying to a nonexistent entity (some people pray several hours a day!!!) to morality (your god may ask you to hurt other people) and much more besides.

* The assumption that people can believe in something simply because it benefits them. Would you believe goblins exist for twenty bucks? Why not?

* The assumption that any god won't see through the "believing just to get into heaven" ploy.

Its what you believe inside that matters. Do good, be good, dont steal, kill, rape.. etc.. then it does not matter who or what you follow. All religions advocate the same things if you really think about it. We need to believe because there are things we will never understand why or how so that is when religion comes in.

No god is the right god. You will believe whatever you believe regardless of the factuality or validity of the god in question. You should watch "Erik the Viking" for a good explanation of how religion works for some people.

In wagering that there is a God, to prevent yourself from going to a mythical land of fire and tar, you then agree to throw away intellectual honesty, replacing it with a mythical belief system that perhaps was better practiced during a time in history where one's life was to be decided on a daily basis. This sillyness has no practical use in this day and age.

good question unfortunately one that no other person can 100% answer for you. it's a good thing that god has revealed himself the way he does. there is wisdom in that... we see his shadow in creation but don't his face. we can feel him but never complete. he can be one place and not there the next moment. sooner or later every person is brought down that attempts to exceed him. what we think we know he will reveal as truth or lie in time. what we think we hate he will protect if it's in his mind to excel. an entity that has his place as we have ours. it's good to seek but also good to see the separation from god and man...

some people will let the way of the universe be in the form of an almighty man if they want to. there are gods for all natural things throughout history in so many cultures. in christianity there is one god that rules it all. its the same twist on a simple truth.if you were to do only what you knew if your heart to be the right thing, would you ever have to read a book to teach you to live? would there be a need for written laws? i dont think the true nature of "god" is as a person or almight being, but a part of everything. people can feel that. its not some superman watching you.
