I was many years ago told I had bipolar when I had a breakdown from my mother dying in a house fire. I was also shifted into a foster home when i was small as my stepfather was not very nice to me. Now my life has turned upside down again. My xhusband has taken our children after I have been the sole carer for the last five years all by myself. His bases of the court case have been centeralised on my biopolar. They have now once again forced me to take lithium and i also have put on weight and cannot function and have to rely on others to do things for me. They have threaten me if i do not take these drugs i will never see my children again. I functioned normally and looked after my children up to them being taken off me now i have nothing. Has anyone got any suggestions. I do not even have anywhere to stay as the family home also had to be sold as my x has just got remarried.

a lot of bipolar patients believe that they can function normally without their meds, but the simple truth is that they can't. their perceptions are completely distorted, and although you may feel that you're being a good parent, the reality is that your children probably are suffering if you're allowing your bipolar disorder to go untreated.

many bipolar patients don't like to take their meds because they enjoy the euphoric feeling of the "highs" that they get during their manic phases, but again to reiterate- those manic phases are often accompanied by very destructive behaviors, including but certainly not limited to drug abuse, gambling, sexual promiscuity, and neglect of responsibilities (such as dependent children).

if you're being honest with yourself, you would see that you're not the only victim here. your family is suffering as well. take your meds.

You have the right to decide to take the drugs or not to. But, if you decide not to, then you know you won't get to see your children. The decision is yours to make. I'm bipolar. Take your drugs. The fact that you have had to go to court indicates to me that you have been experiencing some serious problems due to your condition even if you believe that you've been functioning normally. If you aren't willing to recognize & treat your disorder then you really shouldn't have any children in your care. It sounds to me that its way past time for you to accept the fact that you are bipolar & to take the medication prescribed & keep seeing a dr til you get the right meds in the right dosages.

You need less stress in your life. Try to look at things more positively. Not having the children with you gives you more time to be quiet & less stressed. So that when you do see them you will be calmer & your moods more even. See if you can focus enough to read a good book. Reading & being quiet helps me feel better about myself & my surroundings & helps me cope better with the limitations I have because of my illness. Try avoiding drama which makes things worse for everyone involved.

You know your body better than anyone, so if its having doubts, go with them. That's why they made a choice for 2nd opinions because like a doctor they are also human even if they may think they are playing GOD..... Nobody is perfect all the time, and mistakes happen all the time....There has to be a doctor out there with an alternate and excepting kind of treatment. Also, prayer never hurts when there seems like your at your end think of your children and ask god to lead you to answer, because unlike the doctors GOD will help you, all you have to do is ask, besides it sounds like you have tried everything else. I suggest you listen to the song Jesus take the wheel, because it may be of some comforting to you and help you find the stronger h to dig you from you whole and fight and never give up because your children need u and you sound like you love them very much... and been there my self but you have to find that inner strength because if you dont then you will have givin him the ammo he needs to keep them, be strong and pray, it cant hurt, and you might feel better. I know I have found that the ones you think are there are really only there for themselves and that is and can be more devastating in its self. But get mad not lost, but GOD is the only true one who wont hurt you, or your kids..

They are not forcing the drugs on you, they are merely saying what they see from your case.
Understand what they see: A woman who had her kids taken away because of a bipolar disorder.
Answer for them: Get her to take the lithium so she can get her kids back.
Answer for you: yes, you can question your medical history as to whether you are bipolar, state that nuerology has come a long way since then, and how well you functioned off of lithium. ask to see a specialist.
After that, its up to you, good luck.

wow...you have alot on your plate...but diagnosing bipolar is a big thing...and if you don't feel comfortable with the doctor see another...not every drug works for everyone so the fact that they are forcing you to take something that isn't helping your life sounds alittle fishy....i think it sounds more like manic depression....and you should seriously get a second opinion on everything....the next doctor might tell you something different...maybe you could get into some therapy sessions rather than just trying to get better off of the drugs alone....i hope this helps and good luck!!!!
