Because they are religious and are in denial about it. They even try to proselytise people to become Atheists here. And they think that they are being soooo inventive! lol
I won't tell them if you wont. Let's keep it as an inside joke, okay?

I'm not an atheist, but why do you have trouble understanding the idea that one can talk about something without believing in it? Atheists for the most part aren't talking about GOD here - they're talking about religion, and when a large number of people believe something, it affects everyone. Atheists have every right to challenge religion, just as you have every right to challenge atheism. Putting your head in the sand won't help something go away (not that I think religious freedom should). If you're so certain of your beliefs, why do you worry about atheists? Are atheists more powerful than your God? As long as you're on the defensive, you're losing the battle. Do something POSITIVE with your beliefs, whatever they may be, and you will make the world better for everyone.

I don't ever quote from science book as I am not a scientist nor do I think I would get much fun out of reading science books. I like horror and sci fi.
The Discovery Channel etc, keeps me informed along with all the news stations. I have no desire to recruit anybody as I have no club to have them join.
My only concern is make sure that people who believe in invisible creatures and centuries old myths, keep those believes to themselves, their churches and in their homes.
I go with the don't ask, don't tell, way of dealing with religion.

Religion affects our culture. I want to be part of the debate.
It's a free world. Some fundamentalists are trying to take that away from the rest of us.
Also I'm actually curious about the subject of religion as a social and cultural phenomenon.
P.S. I don't preach in the real world. Two Mormon students and a cab driver tried to convert me to Christianity in the past two weeks. No atheists have.
Also: Science is real. Arguments that use empirical evidence are intrinsically stronger than arguments that use none.

1. Religion and spirituality is a topic that is both older than and more expansive than Christianity. Sorry to burst that there bubble ;)
2. Because if we see poor deluded souls, blinded by faith, suffering through false beliefs about the world, enslaved to non-existant concepts... we feel nobly compelled from a sense of charity to help you move towards enlightenment and to free you from the chains of ignorance.
3. Because if we don't school you then you end up trying to force Christianity onto others historically speaking, this is very bad for us because we don't like being tortured and killed over religious nonsense that isn't even based on morally sound principles (Bible supports slavery, oppression of females, genocide, etc).

I'm an agnostic but I'm also spiritual in my own way. I'm a free-thinker. I don't need anyone who calls himself a "man of God" to tell me what to think!
I don't try to recruit religious people to Atheism! That would be the epitome of arrogance and superiority! But I do hope sometimes that I can make the anally religious loosen the chains a little and see that religion, despite what their so-called Holy-men say, does not have to be a great burden to bear every day and every waking minute, to carry forever on your back.

Hahahahaha.
FYI -- Christians don't OWN the spiritual world.
Religion + SPIRITUALITY forum. that means wiccans, Buddhists, Eskimos and anyone with any question or viewpoint on the nature of religion / spiritual thoughts they may have.
Jesse Owens cannot finish the 100m dash before Christians start quoting from their bibbles. Jenx, you need to not be such a noob, m'kay?
--Why do you and every other Christian murderously defend something that doesn't exist?
edit: Prophetman gets best post IMO

How are we recruiting people to our way of thinking?
Were not the ones saying believe in us or burn for an eternal damnation. Were not the ones who want to put laws on you. Were not the ones who indoctrinate our children. You sure do have a big mouth when it comes to small things. A science book... give me a break, your religion has far worse things and has done far worse things in the past. What has a Science book done to anyone besides teach them something? Your talking out of your *** goodnight.

Anyone who believes they know the truth and other people don't will try their damnedness to convince people they think believe a lie about the erro or their ways. This is basically why most people of good conscience come to such a forum, to spread their belief of what's true.
Although the words often end up coming out sounding hateful, underneath all sides of this topic, i believe, want only for the best reasons they can think of that others agree with them.

I could ask so called Religious types the same question.....
I come to the R and S category, simply because i am curious about the beliefs of different religions.
i do not try to "recruit" others to my way of thinking, as i am not one that believes in persecution of others, because they think differently to me.
I leave that up to others - while you persecute others, you make yourself look the fool. - until this world learns to live as equals, we will never be equal, rather than persecuting others for what they believe, try understanding others reasons for believing what they do.

i come on here to answer questions and refute creationist clap trap to the best of my ability. also to answer the twisted history that claims the romans recorded the existence of jesus, they didn't. god may not exist but religion does exist. and i think quoting factually tested scientific evidence to support an argument is pretty legitimate when you're trying to get at the truth.
