I find it quite interesting to see the different ways people speak in tongues, so seem to "repeat a sentence" almost like it has been learned off by heart eg ABC 123, ABC 123 and others seem to speak with a different voice.

From what I have seen with alot of people speaking in tongues is that one calls upon the Holy Spirit to fill oneself. Is this not a type of Channelling though? Inviting a Spirit into oneself and perhaps taking control?

When one is about to speak in Tongues or getting Slain, do you get a "throwing up sensation" in your stomach and throat?

Secondley when alot of people are speaking in tongues you can feel a "microwave of energy" running though ones body. Obviously we cant see it, but we can feel it... and it vibrates at a very high frequency. This is the Holy Ghost? And is it this high vibration of energy that causes one to be Slain, because the body and mind cant handle the energy?

Thanking you in advance...

*H*

Just trying to compare notes here.

A lot of people even very well meaning people on here are very confused about tongues. Most are correct that it is an actual language and there must be someone to interpret, that is if it is word for the entire congregation. There are also personal words from God that can come in tongues and there is no need for a translator because you will understand the message. Then there is praying in tongues, this is an entirely different subject. When you pray in tongues it is your spirit praying directly to God nobody including you will understand what is being said not even the devil himself can understand only God almighty. In every case it is God that causes the utterance.
Now as for how do I feel before, for me there is kind of a trembling inside that is hard to explain, like an inner earthquake.
Yes there is definitely a difference in the energy in the room when many people are praying in tongues or even when one person gives a word with interpretation. I like your "microwave of energy" analogy.

Check out 1 Corinthians 11:17-22, James 4 and 5, 2 Peter 2, Jude, 2 Timothy 3 for the heinous way that Christians treat other genuine followers of their faith.

The similarities between a formulaic post-Biblical analysis of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and many other religions around the world which date back to pre-Christian times, as well as the similarity of phenomena such as the kundalini of Satanism with demon possession with mental illness with being slain by the Spirit etc. show me that Christianity is a bit confused.

Here are some of the fundamentals of Christian demeanour. Galatians 5:24 says that we crucify the pathema and epithumia with Christ. Pathema means "inner afflictions or sufferings" and epithumia means "turning about sudden periods of rage or passion that are maddening like wine." The connection between this crucifixion and deliverance is shown by Paul's comment in 2 Timothy 3:10 that he had experienced persecutions and pathema in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra.

Despite the fact that "zelos" is the "envy" that we are supposed to avoid in James 3:14, it is derived from the word used to describe a longing for God's greater gifts at 1 Corinthians 12:31. These are the gifts. "And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues." Verse 10 shows that this occurs just as God determines. The more excellent way is love, as described in 1 Corinthians 13.

Mark 7 contains the account of Jesus healing a deaf mute. His tongue was loosed and he spoke plain.

A few of your phrases seem funny to me - "microwave of energy", "throwing up sensation." This is what you get with hypnosis. However, 1 Peter 4:7 says to be "clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray." 1 Corinthians 14:14 makes it clear that you can pray in tongues, so this needs to be done in a self-controlled way. Acts 2:4 shows that Christians spoke in tongues because there were foreigners in the audience. As Christians tend to get scattered due to persecution, speaking in tongues is a gift of God for a practical purpose - so that Christians don't miss out on encouragement despite being miles from home or anybody who speaks their native tongue.

I wish I could answer your question, but I can't.I used to argue with these that spoke in tongues, until one day the Lord told me to go pray.I went to my bedroom and closed the door.Knelt by my bed and started to pray but no words would come out.I was trying very hard to say "Lord what are You trying to do to me", that's when I started speaking in a language that I had never heard before. When I stopped and stood up from the prayer I felt Spiritual strength that I had never felt before.I do not like to do this in Church but sometimes it comes out and I dare not stop it.I do try to be quit and keep it between God and myself.I often pray in tongues when I am alone in my prayer closet. Before this happened though I did not believe in tongues. But who am I to tell God what He can or cannot do.I have never got a throwing up sensation at all.I still don't understand it completely, but I feel blessed each time this happens.I have determined to let God out of the box that I had Him in and do as He wants with me.Out of it all I think the greatest thing that I have learned is my need to follow Him instead of doing what I think is the right thing to do.I hope this helps you.

There are those that really speak in Tongues by the SPIRIT, and others that pretend according to a carnal "trance". Those that really do it at least coherantly hear words and repeat them and feel as peacable as in speaking their own languages.

My understanding of the biblical speaking of tongues, is that Jesus or other prophets could speak in their own language but be understood by everyone listening regardless of what their own language was.

Technically it's an involluntary thing in which someone or something actually speaks in a real, foreign language that says real things that you don't know

Anything other than that is possibly demonic possession or fakery

The Bible says there must be a translator present and you must be speaking in a true language and it must be rightous not demonic

You can't just speak in tongues. God gives it to you according to his sovereign will. Btw, tongues in the biblical sense is actual languages.

Glossolalia has nothing to do with the Holy Spirit. It is a trance like ritual that predates Christianity.
