I would point out that Ashkenazic Jews get Tay-Sachs, while Sephardic Jews generally do not. Hemophilia was a disease primarily associated with royalty in the past centuries because they frequently intermarried.
So as a simple answer it's because in the past Jews tended to marry within their own community. Thus, the assoication of certain diseases with people of Jewish background has more to do with their marriage patterns than it does with race--and since, for hundreds of years there have been Jewish communities in Europe, Asia, Africa and elsewhere, of all different skin colors, Judaism is by definition not a race.

Because Jews normally marry jews and it is a recessive trait. Which means that they are more likely to exhibit the trait.
Who Is at Risk for Tay-Sachs?
Each year, about 16 cases of Tay-Sachs are diagnosed in the United States. Although Ashkenazi Jews (Jews of central and eastern European descent) are at the highest risk for the disease, it is now also prevalent in non-Jewish populations, including people of French-Canadian/Cajun heritage.
Some people carry the genetic mutation that causes Tay-Sachs, but do not develop the full-blown disease. Among Ashkenazi Jews, one in 27 people are carriers. In the general population, one in 250 people are carriers.
Tay-Sachs disease is cause by two people with this recessive trait marrying and having a baby. One in four of there ofspring is born born without an important enzymes, called Hexosaminidase A (Hex A). Fatty proteins build up in the brain, they hurt the baby's sight, hearing, movement, and mental development.

additionally, Guaches ailment is consumer-friendly in Mediterranean human beings & Sephardic (Spanish residing) Jews, yet no longer many times recent in Ashkenaki Jews. meanwhile Ethiopian Jews are black & may well be in risk of those illnesses. Judaism isn't a race. it is not inherited by the mummy in a racial experience. this is inherited in a birthright experience. humorous, if it grew to become into by the father like Islam is , or Christianity grew to become into as low as 30 years in the past, it does no longer be misstated. =============== L'Chaim I evaluate myself a semitic Jew even nevertheless i'm an American & white skinned. I even have advantageous aspects that make it clean there is a few Mediterranean in there & i'm no longer Anglo historic past. that would not make Judaism a race. I had Guaches style indicators, got here upon greater often than no longer in Jews, & wasn't examined with an much less severe priced blood try with the aid of fact of my kin tree from E. Europe. even with the undeniable fact that, i'm many times assumed to be Italian as quickly as I commute. Italians are not a race. they are not even a unique society or ethnicity (Sicilian vs. N. Italian). --yet you all knew what i grew to become into conversing approximately. Judaism is a faith it relatively is a community & kin.

Jews refer to their religion, sure, but they generally marry and stay within themselves, so they all have similar ancestry, and that's probably why Tay Sachs may affect only these type of people

i wouldn't say that they're a race... they're more of an ethnicity, unless you can also say that english people are from a different race than scottish people. someone said that jews tend to marry jews, and that's why they develop such diseases. i can't disagree with that.

...because they are an ethnicity and share genetic traits. They do not have to be a race for this to occur.
