She may have just been joking. (Is she normally smart-alecky?)

However, if the 2 of you are in a committed relationship and she's deliberately keeping her status secret at the office, that would concern me a little. Do her co-workers know that she has a boyfriend?

If her co-workers do know about your relationship with her, then I'd tend to lean towards it being a joking comment. (besides, as her boyfriend, aren't you technically a "fan" of hers anyhow?) ;)

I think the answers that suggest that she is ashamed or embarrassed by your are way off base. If that were so she would not be going out with you. Do you know her coworkers? They might be the type of people who would pry into her personal life, ask questions everyday, tease her about getting married someday or something like that. She may not feel that they are her friends and does not want to cross into that personal side of her life at work.

Well I don't know why the word would upset you! You ARE her "fan" aren't you?
Surely she meant it in the nicest possible way!
Did she act ungrateful for them? Was she derogatory in her referral to you? Do you suspect she has gone off you? Does she ever do thoughtful things for you? Does she ring you? Does she ask when she will next see you? All these things will indicate whether she is happy in your relationship, take your cue from these signs and not from a silly word, that to me, sounds like a light hearted referral to her happy status as an admired girlfriend.

I really doubt she meant it as an insult or that she didn't want to tell everyone it was from you. She was probably joking and it was the simplest answer to someone's prying question.

Do check into whoever this person was who told you this: if it was a female she may be jealous of your gf and/or wants to cause problems for the two of you.

Your gf may not have even said that, but this person may know it would bother you if she had said something like that.

First of all.. dumb answer for the guy below. If you don't know why answer a question? It's like raising your hand in class, having every one look at you, and then drawing a blank. Very embarrassing.

Secondly.. maybe she wanted to be funny? Or she doesn't want people to know she has a boyfriend. Or maybe she wanted to be funny? Oh wait, already said that. I'm going to go with that answer.

Maybe you made her feel like a star. Special. I would suggest asking her why she did not feel the need to say "her boyfriend". IF it really hurt your feelings then the best way to deal with it is to actually talk to her about it and ask her.

Maybe she's embarrased by you. But one thing's for sure.. she's putting you down to make herself look better. That joke is not funny, it's only self serving and it's insulting to you. What a loser she is. Please let this be the last time you send her flowers.

When you break up with her, tell her only this.. "Fan my a*s!" And then don't wait around long enough for her to get it. Just be on your way to bigger and better things, ahem, women. Good luck!

Impressing her friends with this statement.

However, consider getting rid of her because of this disrespect and tell her why.

Alternatively, you can go along with the joke, as the person advises below. Your call.
