Hi, my family and I are planning to drive down to the Seattle area from Vancouver, BC this summer. I was wondering if we would need passports or anything to cross the Canadian-US border?

Passports are handy. But what you need is birth certificates of everyone, and drivers licenses of all adults. They can require you have both, and have been more diligent at getting that minimum with the plan to eventually switch to passports only. But at the earliest you wont need a passport for driving until next year. And there was an announcement over the weekend that might make it latter.

You'll need passports if you are not Canadian citizens. If you are Canadian citizens you will need your birth certificates (proof of country of birth). You should also have government issued photo id, such as a driver's license or health card (not every adult has a driver's license).
