People used to think that the heart was responsible for all the emotion, so the heart symbol just stuck with us throughout time. I mean, the symbol of a heart looks a bit prettier than a brain. The drawing of a heart's only a symbol which represents love, it doesn't symbolise the actual organ anymore, really
And yeah, it's definitely your brain that's responsible for all physiological changes. The brain just isn't that romantic though, you know? People sometimes write "I [symbol of heart] you!", would you prefer people to "I [symbol of brain] you!" -- I brains you!! Might just stick to saying love you...

The moment you fall in love your heart starts pumping more blood to your some parts of the body that is why you blush & other person can notice the physical change in you.
Brain is bigger than the heart that is why it has a higher position in body than the heart.

Some feelings you feel with your heart, when you meet someone you are in love with, your heart beats faster, not your brain. I think most of it is a figure of speech cause you are right to a degree, the heart is a muscle and can't really feel, but it can skip beats, palpitate to let you know things. Your heart aches when you lose someone you love, not your brain. So, it is a little of both.

You're absolutely right. Love is symbolised with a heart to show that it is as important as your heart beat. Sometimes people show it like, when a guy sees a girl or vice versa and falls in love at first sight then they make the sound of heartbeats. That's just to show that you've got a real life and you'r heart's really started beating when you fall in love...

that's a good question.....
well... i guess when you see some one good looking approaching you, one of the first physiological changes (which you can feel) occurs in heart beat.....the heart starts pumping faster due to hormonal changes....to provide more oxygen to the "Brain"(you cant really feel it when the brain is consuming more oxygen)......
i guess that's the reason why heart is used as a sign for love..!!

Cardiac nerves are sensitive to emotions. The exact reason is not known. Scientific study is needed. But it is known that beta blockers have an action in reducing the influence of emotions on heart.

Excellent question... rarely asked...
You are absolutely right... heart is a pump for blood circulation in human body...
Nevertheless, there is a mysterious relation between emotional sensitivity and the heartbeats...
Have you felt your heartbeats accelerated... or sometimes missing one... while going through emotional outbreaks... outbursts...?
