Guru should be enlightened one - agreed. When you choose one simple saint, he is also good. But while selecting, you must be carefull and watchful that the person selected has some character and ability to uplift his disciples. The people are deceived here itself. They select any one who proclaims himself to be guru but in fact has no proper experience, knowledge and Tapasya to advise disciples. Very simple and small alurements sway away such gurus and you become nervous and repent over this when much water has flown away. First comes self-realisation for which a constant, undeviated, unbroken attention through heart, with the diety or guru, is one of the basic conditions. And while doing all routine and obligatory activities / duties, it is to be done. It is penance of householder. One should not run away from obligatory duties. Here one has to keep himself away from all allurements deviating the mind as stability of mind is the most important factor. Then after some time, no fixed limit, there comes God-realisation. Atmasakshatkara and Ishwara-sakshatkara. Can one assess at the beginning, these things in his simple guru. Not possible for want of proper vision. Hence, no haste, study scriptures, chant mantras (which do not require initiation, like Hare Rama Hare Rama, Rama Rama Hare Hare; Hare Krishna Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, or Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya, Om namo Narayanaya, Shri.Ram, Shri.Krishna, etc. Nama Mantras) with intention devotion and belief that the God will sure guide you to get proper guru. See no discrimination in gurus or Gods, no hatred for anybody. Love intensely but without passion or lust and sense of physical sentiments. Love Divinely. After some time, as told earlier no fixed limit, Guru will come to your home to take to TEMPLE OF THE GOD.

How will u judge that the Guru u ve chosen is enlightened one. Do not be swayed by miracles. Just listen to surmons, experiment the teachings in ur life and if they elevate ur thoughts and u r progressing in ur worldly life also so that ur worries r eliminated or alleviated and u ve more time for spiritual pursuits then u r with right person otherwise u r wasting time. Develop positive thinking and u will hve sound mind and ur decisions will also be right. Give importance to urself and develop ur mind by reading books on positive thinking and its power. When ur thoughts r right u will attract right Guru in ur life.

well enlightened Gurus or those who are jeevan muktaas are the same as saints.A saint is jeevan mukta-one who has reached GOD.BOTH ARE SAME ;ENLIGHTENED AND SAINT ARE TWO DIFFERENT TERMS FOR ONE.
Complete enlightment is necessary to reach God.

All Saints are simple or "saral ".Those who are not simple arent saints.Lord Krishna says that simplicity is one of the characteristics of a saint. Saints dont enjoy luxuries they sacrifice thier time and life for welfare of humanity and service of God.
For example my Guruji tells everyone to not leave without having langar but himself he hardly eats anything at all-one small meal in a day thats all.THIS IS NATURE OF A SAINT.each day hundreds or thousands of people have prasaadam or langar in his temple but he rarly asks the sevaks to even get a fruit for himself.
may God find a true guru for you soon.Pray to him-the guru will and choose you s the above person said.

I firmly believe that real gurus r simple saints who r not in to monetrary benefits ....and they r not asking for donations in end of their lecture ..... like now a days every popular swamiji is doing
if we recall our rishi ,munis they all lead a very simple life
but they had a great wealth of knowledge and they created veds and purans ,,,,In this jungle of frauds and con artists
there is small hope for real simple saint ...If u have found one then u r lucky

Please understand that in the true sense, you cannot choose a guru. If the time has come to meet your Guru, the GURU will come into your life and choose you.

Just be patient and dont run after all these baba's who perform miracles. A Guru is one who does not need to perform miracles to show that he is a Guru.

Just have faith in yourself and tell GOD that you are ready to have a Guru in your life and trust me you will have one.

Hari Om.

To accept guru means whatever guru says, you have to accept. Otherwise, don't make guru. Don't make a fashion. You must be ready. That is called prapannam. Tad viddhi pranipätena [Bg. 4.34]. You can understand simply by surrendering, not to test guru. "I shall test him, how, how much he knows." Then what is the use of making guru? No. Therefore Arjuna says that: "Besides You, there is nobody else who can actually satisfy me in this perplexed condition."
tad viddhi pranipätena
pariprasnena sevayä
upadeksyanti te jïänam
jïäninas tattva-darsinah
TRANSLATION
Just try to learn the truth by approaching a spiritual master. Inquire from him submissively and render service unto him. The self-realized souls can impart knowledge unto you because they have seen the truth.
PURPORT
The path of spiritual realization is undoubtedly difficult. The Lord therefore advises us to approach a bona fide spiritual master in the line of disciplic succession from the Lord Himself. No one can be a bona fide spiritual master without following this principle of disciplic succession. The Lord is the original spiritual master, and a person in the disciplic succession can convey the message of the Lord as it is to his disciple. No one can be spiritually realized by manufacturing his own process, as is the fashion of the foolish pretenders. The Bhägavatam (6.3.19) says, dharmam tu säksäd bhagavat-pranitam: the path of religion is directly enunciated by the Lord. Therefore, mental speculation or dry arguments cannot help lead one to the right path. Nor by independent study of books of knowledge can one progress in spiritual life. One has to approach a bona fide spiritual master to receive the knowledge. Such a spiritual master should be accepted in full surrender, and one should serve the spiritual master like a menial servant, without false prestige. Satisfaction of the self-realized spiritual master is the secret of advancement in spiritual life. Inquiries and submission constitute the proper combination for spiritual understanding. Unless there is submission and service, inquiries from the learned spiritual master will not be effective. One must be able to pass the test of the spiritual master, and when he sees the genuine desire of the disciple, he automatically blesses the disciple with genuine spiritual understanding. In this verse, both blind following and absurd inquiries are condemned. Not only should one hear submissively from the spiritual master, but one must also get a clear understanding from him, in submission and service and inquiries. A bona fide spiritual master is by nature very kind toward the disciple. Therefore when the student is submissive and is always ready to render service, the reciprocation of knowledge and inquiries becomes perfect.

When you are a student
You can not judge your Teacher

And no one can judge the enlightenment by outer looks of a person.

"Simple Saints" are like spark of light which is
capable to burn the forest of ignorance.
Whereas
"Rich Saints" can not even imagine that.

Simple saints are self declared & are after material things. their knowledge is theoritical. 2 Enligtened Gurus are God realised-- example- Paramahansa Yoganda--his book AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A YOGI.--His meditation technics are easy to follow & good results.
