Mariechen is the diminutive of Maria (Marie) you would use it for a child.
The English name is Mary so it would be "Little Mary"

In German the diminutive is normally formed using the suffixes -chen or -lein

It mean "Little Marie", as in a pet name, not literally small. An analogous thing in English would be to call your husband or son "Georgie" or "Pauly" (if their name was George or Paul).
