What's 1) an on again off again girlfriend & 2) a "kinda sorta girlfriend"?

I've had two guys use these words recently. I need to know what that means.

Again---
1) an on again off again girlfriend
2) a "kinda sorta girlfriend"

#1 means that they break up then go back together often
#2 means that they see each other quite a bit but they are not completely committed yet.

By the way, some guys say things like that a lot. They don't want you to know that they actually have a girlfriend, so they skirt around the issue with those terms.

It depends upon the context in which they were saying it to you...

It might mean that they are in a rocky relationship that keeps ending and beginning again...

or it could mean that they're trying to diminish the seriousness of their relationship with someone to try to seem available to you. It depends.

I'm not sure what they mean either...but they're not good things.
1) and on and off gf is i think one who's sometimes in the mood (all loving and stuff) and sometimes not.
