It depends what you mean by “global warming”.

If by global warming you mean simply “Has the Earth been warming up over the last few hundred years?” then the best answer I can give is…

Probably.

I say only probably, because there are still some issues with the temperature record – things such as most thermometers are in cities, and these, therefore, suffer from the Urban Heat Island effect (cities tend to be warmer than the surrounding countryside) – so there is still some uncertainty, about the accuracy of the temperature record.

However, it seems likely that average temperatures have risen by somewhere between 0.3°C and 0.7°C over the last 100 years.

If, on the other hand, you mean “Are the scare stories about *catastrophic* climate change true?” then the answer is…

Probably not.

The Earth has been *much* warmer than it is today many times in the past, and these periods are associated with eras that were good for life, with the greatest times of biodiversity. Think about the time of the dinosaurs – it was *much* warmer then than it is today.

So, to make it sound scary, the Global Warming Alarmists come up with all sorts of nonsense to try to terrify you into believing it’s going to cause a catastrophe. Hence the grossly inflated stories of sea-level rise, hurricane activity, droughts *and* floods, starvation, mass extinctions, etc, etc. It’s when you read answers on Yahoo that claim we’re going to experience both hotter summers *and* colder winters that you realise how gullible some people really are.

The truth is, yes, it’s probably warming up a bit, but we’ll adapt perfectly well, as we have before. There will not be any catastrophe – in fact, it’s entirely likely that we will be better off in many ways, so the positives may well outweigh the negatives. For example, plants grow faster in a warmer, CO2-rich world, so we’ll be able to produce more food.

So, relax, ignore the scaremongers and enjoy the warmer weather.

As ever with global warming - don't believe the hype.

yes its happening right now.its real, its a threat if you think back to this winter that we had some places had a mild winter and it was warmer why are the polar bears becoming extinct, because of this global warming.as the polar caps are melting caused by the extensive use of fossil fuel and other gases being emitted into the atmosphere causing the ozone layer to become thin and allow more sunlight to come in. Now when the earth is not cooling globally its warming globally.

Yes look at the temperatures and how warm we are getting in the summer and winter.

In the state of Indiana it's not as harsh as it used to be. It used to be bitter cold, snow, ice storms, everything. Last year: Not much snow, no ice storms, and maybe 20 for the lowest. It used to get below zero.

HOW CAN PEOPLE NOT BELIEVE ,
THAT IS WHAT IS UNBELIEVEBLE

What about desertification due to deforrestation ,but speeded up by unusual hot Suns.
Water shortage .Rising seas
Croploss due to temperature changes ,
Heat and cold weaves that are killing people .
Flasfloods .

Mass exstinction of Flora and fauna ,many animals are becoming sick because of SMALL changes in temperature .
Insects are affected and some are going out of control such as the parasites that are killing the bees.
Vital links in the food chains are disapearing affecting other species further along in the chain
.
We are witness to a mass exstinction ,for the first time since the dinosaurs, of the earth's estimated 10 million species, 300,000 have vanished in the past 50 years. each years, 3,000 to 30,000 species become extinct.
Everything is happening so fast it is not possible to monitor things any more

Global warming is a very complex collection of many effects
This text only covers mainly man made desertification

Industrial contamination ,the contaminating effects of the cities ,is another story

There are natural cycles in the planets life
but mans existance has its effects, and this is increasing with overpopulation, putting strains on Natural resources and increasing contaminations as well as destructions of essential componants the ensure living conditions for all life forms.

In North Africa,India,Mexico ,millions of people are effected by land loss and desertification and some have died as a result.

In china, thousands of what used to be farmers are running for their lives from the dust storms, that have burried their towns and turned their lands into dessert.

The Sahara is growing by 7 kilometers a year
and many of the desserts we know are a results of mans actions .

Collectively this planet´s arable lands are drying up because of bad farming practices like, over grazing and fertilizers,

Each degree rise in temperature means 10%crop loss

There is less and less water (because of deforestation),to irrigate this production ,

Each year 70 million more people have to eat and drink and wash

Farmers are plowing more and more unstable lands because they have lost so many million hectares to desertification ,because of bad farming practises.

RISING SEAS
The northpole is melting ,and we will know it without ice in our life times.
This does not affect the sea level because it is ice that is already in the water.

The melting ice from Green land and the south pole ,are another matter.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/natur...

If forrest are being exchanged for ashalt, concrete and desserts, what is gonna keep this planet habitable for us.

We as humanity can behave in a less stressful manner as far as the Environment is concerned ,but it will mean global co operation between all countries ,and taking into account human nature and the world politics ,it is unlikely that this will happen.

Yes and its just not the warmth its all the UV rays and radiation that comes with that extra warmth . I know the temperature has only come up a few degrees so far but how much more radiation are we taking in and how much more are we going to get in a few years . We may as well be walking on the sun.

haven`t u heard about it on science channels. u don`t believe ur books. the first prove i have is of flooding of coastal regions day by day like case of tsunami. global warming causes ice in polar regions to melt which causes flooding. the species of these regions have also got extinct

No. It's the big lie of our age, invented by that liberal nutcase fat porker hypocrite Al Gore, who also claimed to have "invented the Internet."

People like him who run around saying "the sky is falling" or "the Earth is burning up" need to be taken away by men in white suits.

He needs to undergo a mental evaluation in any event, to see if he's even fit to stand civil trial for his mass deception perpetrated upon the American people and the international community at large.

Believing in a myth such as "global warming" is dangerous, and represents a threat to our national security because it's a distraction from our real problems and our real enemies who want to destroy us.

This is why we must not allow a Democrat to get into the White House, who will focus upon such an absurd issue while avoiding the actual dangers and threats in the world.

What does exist of global warming is natural, as it's what melted the ice ages. We'd be lost without it. If anything, global warming needs to be protected, not prevented.
