Question.

You have, for example, a 500 watt mono amp and wire up two SVC 4Ohm subs in parallel to get a 2 Ohm load. Will each sub get a true 500 watts RMS or will it get divided and only send about 250 watts to each sub?

If the subs are identical, then the power produced by the amplifier will be divided evenly between the two subwoofers. If the amplifier is producing 500 watts, then each subwoofer gets 250 watts.

This would also be true if the subwoofers were wired in series, instead of parallel. Power is calculated by multiplying voltage and current. In a parallel circuit, each subwoofer gets the full output voltage but only half the total current. In a series circuit, each subwoofer gets the full current but only half the output voltage. Either way, if you calculate the power used by a single speaker, it will be exactly half the total power produced by the amplifier.

If your amp is rated 500 watts at 4 ohms theoretically dropping the ohm load will increase the power output...My experience is that power will increase but not double...for the amps I have worked with.....I would guess in your situation each speaker will get more than the 250 but not quite 500 watts. maybe 350 or 400...Remember take it easy you could blow your speakers.
