It is because the Holy Spirit has not softened their heart to believe. Even the saved start out as non-believers until that happens.

my parents are very religious and as a result i had religion rammed down my throat from a young age.
for many it is not that people hate jesus but rather that they hate the way some try to make all non christians believe in things that they dont want to.
i lived in an area where we used to have various religions groups come almost daily and knock on my door and try to preach to me, me i admit i used to go get my bible and preach back and quote the actual scriptures to them as many didint even know the scriptures.
i know that many have various questions to be answered and to be honest the bible doesnt give us all the answers.
one example is what happened to mary madgeline after the crucifiction? why is it not mentioned that jesus was single as it was unheard of for a jewish male hs age to be unmarried so was he married to mary? did he have a child with her? some say she had a child and it married the royal line of david is this true? when was he turned from a man into the son of god by the church and where are all the original scriptures? if all desciples were present at the last supper why is it that often past paintings depict the schene as all at a table and drinking from seperate goblets and with a woman at jesus right side which is the highest honour for anyone at that time indicating it was his wife. while many search for the holy grail is it not possible that it is in fact a person not an object? if man was made first an woman was made from man why is it that women are the sacred givers of life? also why is it the symbol \/ is called the chalice ( thats another name for a cup) and represents a woman?
the list goes on but my point is that while many seem to have no patience for the scriptures it doesnt mean all non christians hate jesus. it is normally the way they are taught an the fact that most preach but dont even know the scriptures

No, as gandhi said, he does not mind Jesus but he dislike the christians. The christians were never like jesus.
Only Christians who were not like jesus could think non-christians hate jesus. There is nothing to hate about jesus. In fact, for non-christians, some even doubt this figure existed. How do you hate a non-existing figure?

I'm not a Christian, and I think Jesus is pretty swell. I love the stuff he said like "Love your enemies, bless those who hurt you." and "Judge not, or be thyself judged." and things like that. In fact, a lot of non-Christians like(d) Jesus. A few historical examples would be Ben Franklin, Mahatma Gandhi, John Lennon, etc...
It's usually just the hypocrisy perpetrated by a lot of Christianity's followers we don't like. Such as how the Bible says not to judge, yet so many Christians do. Or how the Bible says to love your enemies, yet Christians have so much violence. Or how the Bible says to help the poor, yet so many Christians are so greedy. I understand not all Christians are like that, many Christians are great people like MLK and Mother Teresa and the people of all those charities and such, but still yet, ask 10 non-believers and 9 or 10 of them will cite hypocrisy as their #1 or #2 reason for not believing. Also, I just don't see why God would have to send people to Hell for not accepting His son's sacrifice, or why He'd even have to sacrifice his son just so He could forgive us for sins that could've been prevented if he hadn't've planted that tree right where Eve could get to it.
Philosophically though, Jesus said some clever stuff and I like him.

As I understand it, very few non-Christians actually have a problem with Jesus Christ. Most non-Christians consider His work to be wise and good, and He is respected as a very important religious figure.
It's the bloodshed that the church has executed in the name of conversion that most people have a problem with, and judgemental preaching about Satan, sin, and damnation, which shifts the focus away from Jesus Christ.
It is better for Christians to love God more than they fear the devil.

Most of us don't hate Jesus. I'm a satanist, and I have an honest admiration for the man to a certain point. My problem has more to do with the theology that has built up around him - that and some of his followers.
It's amazing to me that a guy who talked about having a kingdom "not of this world" and the value of an individual could spawn a religion that seeks to subvert (at least) American governance and legislate public morality.
I think that's the part most of us hate.
All the best,
Lazarus

As for me, absolutely nothing at all! I honestly believe that Jesus must have been one of the most decent, respectable, admirable people ever to live. Not being a member of the Christian faith is not all necessarily equivalent to disliking Jesus! There are often other reasons that one is not a member of the faith - being born into a culture/family in which Christianity is not dominant (and thus having little to no actual exposure to it), disillusionment with its current practice/interpretation, desire to worship Jesus/God in one's own way, inability to believe absolutely, etc...

Wow, some of those answers you've received, even from Christians are hard core. You have a great question. Why do people hate anything? Hate means ignorance. Unfortunately, we live in a judge mental society. If you don't look a certain way or act a certain way, then your are different. It is hard to love, hard to accept, hard to have faith, even hard to forgive. It is easy to hate, easy to blame and easy to give an opinion about faith when one does not have any. As humans, whatever we fear, we disassociate and sometimes even hate. Why? because it's easy to do so. Those people who hate Christ don't really know him. All you can do is pray for them!!

As a non-christian I don't hate Jesus. There are some whoever, who will irrationaly hate this figure head because he represents a faith that is contradictory to their own deeply held beliefs that were likely instilled in them at childhood.

I don't hate Jesus, I hate no one. Hate and disbelief are not the same thing. I believe Jesus was a good man and a wonderful teacher, but I do not believe he was the son of any God, any more than the rest of us are.
