Check out the Honda Fit. Not sure if you are in the United States or not. If not, in other countries, I believe it is called the Honda Jazz.
A second good choice is the Toyota Corolla.
Kia would be ok, but make sure you check your models. Some of them are not very safe or reliable. Kia does have one of the best warranties, but it still stinks when you have to use it.

You're not going to believe it but...KIA fits all the criteria you've got listed. In additiuon, the Korean car has received the JD Power Best Buy rating! I realize I'm stepping on some toes here, by not sayiong a Ford, Chevy or Chrysler, but I honestly think that if she looks at and test drives a KIA, she'll be very impressed!

Inexpensive is a relative term. Price range would help.
Honda Civic, Accord or Acura CSX. Toyota Corolla or Camry.
All are pretty reliable, the CSX is probably the most comfortable, but also the most expensive. Civic and Corolla are the cheapest. Cheaper still would be the Honda Fit or Toyota Yaris, which would be good choices as well, but may be somewhat small.
