I have to get my wisdom teeth pulled 4 days before vacation. Will this be bad? I'm a little nervous considering i'm only 14 1/2! Does it hurt? I'm going all the way out, and getting all 4 removed. They are all growing in crooked. I just want to know what to expect, and if i'll be ok in time for vacation! I'm also a big singer, so will this effect my singing voice at all? What do I need to expect?

You should expect marginal pain, swelling, tenderness, mabey some bruising , it all depends on the person. Some people think it was a piece of cake and others , to say the least don't . The first week is the hardest, so probably not on feeling good for vacation. You'll be ok, but you won't want to run all over. Take your pain meds on schedule, the best way to keep the pain under control is to not let it get out of hand. It's easier to prevent than end once you have it. Follow your dentist instructions to the t to limit complications and speed healing time and mention any questions before you get put under, it's much harder to try to talk after it's done and it shouldn't effect your voice at all , although you won't be able to open your mouth very well the first day or two. Lots of liquids, No straws and solid food is probably a bad idea you don't want to rip the stiching { straw} or get anything stuck in the socket { food} and of course no smoking .

I got mine pulled at 15...this is about the right age.

I was out of shool for 3 days..had the surgery on Friday..went back to school on Wednesday. I was out of gym for about 1 1/2 after that (getting hit in the head with a ball would be very very bad). The doc gave me T 3's (tylenol w/ codiene) I don't know if they prescribe this anymore for this condition. I slept a lot over the days following my surgery and ate a crap-load of ice-cream and tomato soup, but I felt good enough for school in less than a week (and I was a huge dork and wouldn't have wanted to go to school unless I could do well).

I don't see any reason why it would effect your singing. You may get, as I did, mild bruising on the jaw-line on your face, but that also cleared up within the week.

Good luck to you. It will all be over soon and then you never have to think about wisdom teeth again.

When I had my wisdom teeth pulled, I was 20. I agree, 14 is rather young to even be starting to get wisdom teeth!! Lol, I guess you are just very wise ^.~

There was nothing unusual about the way my wisdom teeth were coming in, so the dentist gave me shots in my gums of local anesthetic (novacane I guess). Then they loosened the teeth at the base and gently wiggled/pulled until they popped out. I didn't feel any pain. However, it really depends on which direction your teeth are coming in. Mine grew strait up like normal teeth. But some people's wisdom teeth grow in at an angle, and a few unfortunate souls have them grow in sideways and they remain buried in the gums. Those people definitely need to be knocked out with general anesthesia, and they need to see an oral surgeon rather than a regular dentist.

Good luck, I'm sure you will be fine tho.

When I had my wisdom teeth pulled I got knocked all the way out too. You won't remember a thing, probably even after either. After they give you pain pills and cotton to put in your mouth that you bite down on to stop the bleeding. You should be fine to go on vacation. I was fine that night. Don't know about the singing thing but I doubt it will affect it. You should call your doctor if you're worried or have any questions.

If you are being fully anesthetized, snap your fingers. Thats how long you will feel like you were out. The procedure takes about 5min a tooth and no you wont feel any pain while you're out. Now on your singing, you will need to keep the back of your mouth/cheeks packed with gauze to protect the exposed bone for at least 2 weeks and your jaw will be sore for a few days after the procedure is done. If you don't keep gauze over the exposed bone you run the risk of something called "Dry Socket", which is awesome if you like mind crippling pain.

Also, smoking=dry socket

Having your wisdom teeth taken out should not affect your voice in any way. The dentist should make sure that the procedure is as painless as possible; and you should definitely talk this over with him. There will be pain and soreness after the procedure so make sure the dentist gives you adequate pain control medication. Also make sure to give undivided attention to any instructions you get about after-care and follow-up. You must follow those instructions to the letter in order to avoid any possible complications like infection (the most common after-effect of dental extractions).

I'm a Dental Assistant and I have to say your brave, I'm 23 and scared. still got mine anyways, are you gonna be on nitruous oxide or out during the surgery? I'm not trying to scare you but I would be on that. I've seen many and it looks "not pleasant". Were I work, they take a Xray before anything then see where to pull. Then they numb you or put to sleep during it, then they start with a "extractor" to push and move it loose, then the other scary thing to pull it out, then its out and your bleeding, then stitch it out. Then you can't really eat for hours..my sister when she had hers out she had milkshakes for food, then she was on pain meds. But depends on the people, some take it..some cry. But you should be fine. Youre getting it done now, I still have mine which is sad, still have to go thru that.

Everyone has different experiences with surgery. I was sore for a few days, but it depends on whether they are impacted or not. I was happy with the work after a few days, but you will have trouble eating, may have some light bleeding along with stitches, and will have big holes. I was happy when it was over though. Enjoy the vacation.
