Practice with a stability ball 15 minutes a day. It works on your BJJ flow. It's not easy. You can get dings and scratches from falling, but it works.

Here's a good video on it. Flow and setup is just as important as the actual submission.

While one cannot practice the physical resistance needed without a partner, the motions themselves can practiced by oneself.

Placement of hands, and a breakdown of the motion required in the armbar takedown, can affectively be done with a shadow assailant, with the dojo time spent adjusting the attack to the actual physical proximity of the opponent. This is true in real-life since no opponent will have the exact arm length or strength as another, which will require an on-the-spot adjustment anyway.

Some of the techniques can be practiced with a heavy bag laying on the ground and you can even tie a bed sheet around it to give you some "quasi" arms or legs to work with. While its not the best training partner it will allow you to develop your movement into and out of some positions so that when you actually work against a real partner they are smoother and faster and easy to execute properly.
