i had a chair with a stainless steel leg thing i played on it soo much that my less than 200lb butt bent it into what i was told is called a mushroom and the chair fell in half

is a chair made of real steel or just aluminum?

Sounds like aluminum, real steel is very hard to bend. Cast iron and aluminum would have broken instead of bending.

Sure it could be steel. Was it made in china? sheet metal tubing chairs from china are really only good for children. I know everyone else is saying aluminum but in most cases aluminum costs more so they don't use it.

I would guess steel with a fake stainless coating. Then agian no one here is going to know without seeing it.

You would need to know the cross-sectional area of the leg. You weight alone is not enough to know whether you exceeded the yield point of either steel or aluminum. Divide your weight by the area of the leg, and compare that stress to the compressive strength of steel and aluminum. If either one is close to the applied stress, it is likely that that is the material of the leg.

it's either aluminum or you weight a little more than 200lbs! jk even if you are that heavy it shouldn't bend so it can't be steel
