I've met and talked to a lot of people on the internet through instant messengers and e-mail. Most of them were rude or worse. Do I just have bad luck or are the majority of people on the internet cold hearted?

Cos it's just that online and you are not face to face in person so it's easy to blow someone off if it suits you,but that's the way it is, sad but true...♥

You can find some good people; but it seems like they are scarce. Mostly you will find cowards that feel safe in their rooms, in the dark, in front of the computer, that have no room to talk bad to or insult others that are trying to validate their own pitiful, empty lives, that are the ones being rude to people on the internet. It is an outlet to rid themselves of their bitterness, and to make themselves feel better.

People think they can be more rude online because it isn't face to face... Imagine people saying the things they do online at a mall or something! Fights would be breaking out right and left! Online people feel safe and secure, and because of this, they feel they can trash talk whoever they want.
Don't worry about it... you wouldn't want these people as your friends anyway if they reallyfeel the way they tell things.

Not all. Don't be dissapointed. I've met some who are not, though we do not really know each other and we live almost one third of the earth apart from each other. We even e-mailed each other from time to time and talk about our personal problems and we even exchange ideas and advice. Well, it's just a matter of blessing I think...God bless you and may you find true friends on line...

Depends on how you talk to them and who you're talking to.

Females will always be rude to a random male imming them

Dudes will be like wtf?

The IM scene isn't what it was 10 years ago (w/ the clean, fun, safe chat rooms).

Just try to be a little more friendly w/o being creepy. I know it's a fine line, but that's the way it is nowadays.

The inherent anonymity of the internet releases certain individuals from the bounds of social norms, and thereby provides an outlet for the frustrations of their petty, pointless, and wasted lives.

pick the people you decide to talk to wisely. there are a lot of people who have no morals or manners online and i bet in person as well. youll eventually find some interesting respectful people to conversate with. a lot of the people who are rude online probably dont even have enough heart to say a lot of the things they say to you online to your face.

Well I don't think they are necessarily cold hearted or cruel...the internet is just a place where they can be whoever they want to be...most people on the net acting tough are real P**sies in real life I'm sure. :-)

Now you get that you worthless POS??? ;)
