Anytime I go over to someone's house I ring the door bell, they always just say "come in" or "doors unlocked", instead of walking up to the door to answer it. What ever happed to the days when people actually answered the doorbell when it rang?

I don't know about you, but some weird people knock on my door cause i kind of live in a bad neighborhood.

I mean, gawsh, I used to live next door to some crack dealer and people would always get confused and knock on my door instead of his.

Then there's the drunk woman who always wants to borrow a dollar or needs a ride. Hey look, there's her bare foot, four year old playing with some broken glass in the parking lot.

...and the weird guy who thinks it's an honor to take my trash to the curb for left over vodka and mixed nuts.

Seems like people have gotten lazy. We always answer the door after looking to see who it is. The only time we do that is if we're expecting good friends or family over, then they can just come in if everyone is occupied with something. 95% of the time we answer the door for expected friends and family.

You have to consider the circumstances. I have a 4 year old and a 4 month old - sometimes I yell for the person to come on in because I think it's more polite than making them stand outside while I finish mopping up spilled milk or changing the baby's diaper.

If it bothers you, just ask the person why they don't answer the door themselves. Or just stop coming over.

I guess that would depend on whose house you're going to and what kind of relationship you have with them. If I'm expecting a friend/relative & I'm busy in the kitchen or something, I'll just holler for them to come in. But if I don't have my hands full, I definitely go open the door myself.

I sure do answer mine!(after I peek out the window) I wouldn't want to say "Come iiiNNnnn" and find the Booger Man stepping into my house!!! :S

I keep my door locked anyways so nobody's gonna come in unless I FEEL like answering ;)

To answer your question about answering the door. You should always answer it in person never by yelling. its pure edicate.
The reason why people do not anwer the door as often anymore is just the pure loss of manners.

At my house no one even knocks, they just walk in. I share a house with other roommates and usually everyone is in there separate rooms, so if your knocking, no one is gona here you. Just walk in, the doors always unlocked, as for everyone else I dont know I suppose its just friendlier to say come in than to open the door like you dont trust them to walk into your house.

They really don't want you there. When someone is happy to see you, they come to the door, and open it and let you in with open arms. When they don't want to see you, but have no other choice, they just tell you the door is open, and hope that you feel unwelcome, and leave sooner than you had planned to.

It sounds like they feel comfortable with you because you're over there a lot. Otherwise wouldn't they be getting up to check who's at the door?

I think most of us got out of the habit of answering the door at all when we were bombarded by proselytizing Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons. Now even if it is someone we want to see, we still habitually don't walk to the door. I like being able to just tell them to come inside.
