Which sun are you referring to? The sun of the solar system (scientific), a sun of worship (religious worship of solar deity also known as heliolatry), or a sun in an Earth-based religion?
"Why don't Christians worship the Sun?"
Abrahamic religions (which include the three prevalent monotheistic religions – Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) and other religions that identify with monotheistic traditions such as the Sikh and Bahá'í Faiths, adhere to the common belief that the "One" or "Supreme" God created the Universe (planets, solar system, etc.). Members of these faiths only worship one God because in their religious texts, God instructed the people to strictly worship God the Supreme Deity.
"Is the sun not ever-present?"
Scientifically, the sun is a star, and can die like stars before it has. According to some religions, the sun is "ever-present".
..."why don't believers in God believe the Sun is God?"
Believers in God believe in God as a being with eternal presence with a form that is not visible to the eye or readibly understood by humans. Believers worship God because God created everything, including the sun. There's some passage in all three Bibles (Christian, Jewish and Muslim) describing creation, where God created light. Therefore, these believers worship God instead of the worship the Sun, since God, "the Creator", created everything, including light, which the sun emits. There are, however, various definitions of God.
"Will believers keep changing their definitions of God to suit their faith?"
Yes. Religion was created by man to suit their faith. Some individuals simply choose to believe in God, instead of adhering to a set religion. Science does not necessarily explain "away the mystery" for faith.
Many Monotheists believe the world was produced through light. Science simply explains this emission of light, gas and other elements as "The Big Bang". Any way you look at it, the world was produced from light.
Hopefully this answer is as unbiased as possible and provides valuable insight. :)

How do you get from point "A" to point "Z" and bypass so much?
You say Leibniz referred to the "fact" that God created the earth. Therefore, he recognized that God was the creator, right? But where do you refer to where he says to worship the earth and not the creator? You don't.
THEN you jump to your OWN conclusion of "the most obvious cause of all there is is the sun." This is YOUR conclusion. And if you know anything about SCIENCE, you would know that the SUN DID NOT CREATE THE EARTH!!!! While the sun's gravitational force caused the gathering of the matter into the ball we live on, it was not the creator of the matter. Without that matter, you have no earth... heck you have no SUN either. The sun was also scattered matter at one point, so what was responsible for the gathering of THAT matter into the sun? Then shouldn't we worship THAT instead? Shouldn't we then worship GRAVITY, being that the actual force which pulled the matter together to make the sun, ALL the stars, ALL the planets, ALL the "matter" in the universe? Your logic is flawed... your conclusion is flawed and at best short-sighted.
The sun is NOT ever-present. It was at one time non-existant, therefore it is not EVER-present. Furthermore, eventually it will have an END... again not being EVER-present. It is also NOT the most powerful thing in the heavens... ever heard of a Black Hole? Now THOSE things are pretty darned powerful! AND MORE powerful then our sun. Light escapes from our sun, but a black hole is SO massively powerful it will not allow even the light to escape from it. So again, your supposition is incorrect.
God created "creation." He did not create another god. Deuteronomy 4:35, "You were shown these things so that you might know that the LORD is God; besides Him there is no other." Deuteronomy 6:4, "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one." Therefore, His creation cannot be equal or superior to Him... thus the sun cannot be a god... besides, the sun is not infinite therefore it cannot be a god, since God is infinite.
You say believers keep changing their definitions of God to suit their faith. It is not we, the believers, who define God. God defines what He is, and we, in our limited human understanding sometimes have trouble understanding the infinity of God... so we can make mistakes about it. But that does not change the definition of what God is.
I HOPE this can help you stop trying to propose preposterous ideas, illogical conclusions, false argumentation in a vain attempt to discredit God and Christianity.

If God created the sun, as Jews, Muslims and Christians believe, then the sun cannot be God. None of these religions is a sun-worshipping religion. As Christians have never worshipped the sun, there has been no need to "explain away" anything, or to change the definition of God.

I cannot change the definition of One who does not change. He is the same God Paul, Moses and David worshiped.
To even consider this hypothesis is ridiculous. The sun is powerful, necessary and toasty warm. But, it is not a living being, has no mind and is proven to be slowly dying.
As it is, God created the Sun and I choose to worship the Creator rather than His creation. Since He designed the Sun, Moon and stars, He is by far greater than all of them.
After all, when a car company designs a new car, the designers and executives get all the praise - the car gets the admiration.

I wish just once, someone who worships scientific knowledge would actually put a specific discovery or journal as a reference. I am getting so tired of hearing how science has proven God does not exist. When? Who? Wheres the published journal with such findings? And why isn't the dude more famous than Isaac Newton, or Albert Einstein?
Last time I read up on this stuff, it took more faith to believe in evolution than God. Come on now, science cant even figure out how to kill the cold virus in our body, yet you trust them with your eternal life? That's faith, more faith than I have anyway.

The sun was created by God. We are created by God. Therefore, we worship Him, not his creation. Only he is worthy of our worship.
If there were no sun, God would provide light by some other means. The sun is only in existence because God allows it to be!

Christmas is the same day as Natalis Solis Invicti, the Birthday of the Unconquered Sun.
If I recall correctly, there are many symbolic relations between Jesus and earlier sun gods, like Horus and Mithra and in many early mythologies the Sun was the Son of God.

dont read much history huh?? the romans, the mayans, the egyptians all worshipped the sun... i worship the creator of the sun ......science cannot explain away the mystery of the Creator, nor can it make me lose faith in such a Creator...so your final comment really makes no sense....i do not change my definition of God to suit my faith... i would say that you change your definition of science based on new discoveries...is the world flat ? of course not but at one time your science thought so....and anyone saying different was punished ...those ppl who believe in God didnt change ...only the ones who believe in science as a god

One reason is supposed to be because the Jews were punished for it.
Deuteronomy 4:19
And when you look up to the sky and see the sun, the moon and the stars—all the heavenly array—do not be enticed into bowing down to them and worshiping things the LORD your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven.
Deuteronomy 17:3
and contrary to my command has worshiped other gods, bowing down to them or to the sun or the moon or the stars in the sky,
Jeremiah 8:2
They will be exposed to the sun and the moon and all the stars of the heavens, which they have loved and served and which they have followed and consulted and worshiped. They will not be gathered up or buried, but will be like dung lying on the ground.
Acts 7:42
But God turned away from them and gave them over to the worship of the sun, moon and stars. This agrees with what is written in the book of the prophets: " 'Did you bring me sacrifices and offerings forty years in the wilderness, house of Israel?
It seems noteworthy that Christians who are adulterous and money-loving and seduce other Christians into depravity, especially when they are only just escaping from those who live in error "carouse in the daylight" (2 Peter 2:13-19). Also, following God and having your cause for justice vindicated is likened to "the noonday sun" in Psalms 37:6. It seems that those who want to draw attention to themselves like to try to replace the life-giving nature of the sun and become the focus of other people's lives if they can.
The power that God gives humans over the physical creation is depicted in Genesis 37:9 - "Then he had another dream, and he told it to his brothers. "Listen," he said, "I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me.""

Because the sun isn't God. The Sun symbolizes God. It isn't actually God. The sun gives life to us all, and so does God. It's symbolism. God uses symbolism alllll the time in the bible. Especially in Revelation. And the sun is God's creation and it says specifically in the bible not to worship God's or Man's creations, but to worship God.
