The official answer is: who cares, I'm dead, do what ever they want.
If I was rich and could do anything, I would have a Viking Funeral. Gather all my friends and family to a huge catered clam bake/beach party where they would watch my corpse be immolated on a boat that sails out to sea at sunset. That's the kind of funeral I would want to go to, so that is the kind of funeral I would have.
I have a sneaking suspicion it will be the former, and not the latter, though.

I want my funeral to take place in a night club with all my friends and family.
I'd like for them to hold me up with strings like a puppet, tie a bottle of exspensive whiskey in my hand and a cigar in the other. Then a crew of guys could pull on the ropes and move me around the night club so my corpse could dance all night with everyone. I'd just think it would be easier to say goodbye if everyone was having a good time.
If I'm lucky, I just might get laid after the funeral.

I won't be around. Funerals are to celebrate the life of a person and to help the living grieve. If someone who loves me wants to read from their holy book because it reminds them of me somehow or helps them feel better, I hope they do it.
I'd like it to be a very long time from now, and I'd like it to be a celebration of my life. But I'm not going to write persnickety things in my will mandating that there not be a prayer said or something. Let those in mourning cope how they need.

I have already instructed my son to cremate my body and dispose of the ashes as he sees fit.
If anyone, including him, wants to have some kind of memorial get-together (not religious), that's their business. I will be dead and I don't care. That there will be no religious service, I am quite sure. My son is an atheist and my sisters, whatever their beliefs, do not attend church and would respect his wishes.

I say "who cares, I'm dead, let them grieve how they want". Actually, I'll request that it not be an overly religious event, but I won't really force the issue as, once again, I'll be dead; let them get through it however they want. Of course, I'll have donated my viable organs to those in need so I don't know if it'll be open casket... I may have given away my eyes or skin, you know.

I want a party not a somber funeral. My friends and family know my wishes and have agreed to honor them...
Singing, dancing, games, food and fun.. Just like my life, nothing religious in nature will be acceptable..

Well, I may or may not care now, but I can guarantee you that I won’t care after I'm dead. Really, I just want it to be as easy as possible on my family members. I want them to get closure and if that means a big service, then so be it, but I think it would be easiest on them if they didn't have to worry about money and ceremony.

im not having a funeral.
i'm being cremated. i don't really care about a ceremony and if there is one, it'll be "hey, look, here's crystallinectar's ashes. you can say some nice things about her if you want. and if not, the food's over there. and enjoy the party." yes, i will specify i don't want religious services being performed. the only real thing i insist upon is that someone MUST read some t.s. eliot if they're having a memorial
my husband's will be the same way
there will be A ceremony though, it just depends on who goes first. after we're both gone, we want our ashes mixed up together and sprinkled in the nc appalacians. so anyone who wants can go up there and watch them being sprinkled and say some nice crap or not. who knows, it might just end up being our kid taking them up there and doing it by himself. i dunno.

I want to be cremated and have my ashes thrown in Lake Michigan. In addition, I want a traditional Irish wake (not the funeral, just the party bit) with lots of food, music, and joy.

I want a wake with friends and family toasting my life then a cremation followed by dumping my ashes somewhere appropriate, like Napa Valley at a winery or something.
No god... just a way for my friends and family to comfort each other after I'm gone.
