Don't just add protein for the sake of adding protein. You'll require different amounts, depending on your activity level, and the type of exercising you're doing. I'm a guy and I know it works different for men and women, because the testosterone levels needed for building musle, and burning fat are different for men, than they are for women. The key is balance in your diet. Protein won't be properly utilized by your body without a certain proportion of carbs. And you won't burn fat, without a certain amount of fat intake. Then there's heathy fats, unhealthy fats, and proper fat proportions between Omega 3 fatty acids, and omega 6 and 9 fats also comes into play. Too much of one or the other isn't healthy. Really diet is a complicated balancing act, depending on your goals. Your best bet is to find someone similar to you, who has done what you want to do, and try to emulate them. If it doesn't work, try another approach. Diet and exercise is, unfortunately, very much trial and error, what works for one person is not necessarily going to work for someone else. Just keep at it, and remember the best way to learn is by example, and always do your own research, there's a lot of people who have no idea what they're talking about.

No, the powder itself has a specific caloric value so in and by itself it will not make you gain weight unless you overeat. Protein is the primary source for muscle growth along with carbs. If you gain weight, then it's because muscle weighs more than fat, but not because you have a protein shake. Look at the calories. Protein is not some magic potion that makes your muscles go "poof" and if you don't build muscle something else goes poof. It doesn't work that way.

Too many calories of any type will make you put on weight. Takes testosterone to build muscle. Men have more so can get "ripped". Not sure of how much women have BUT you can get a muscular look with weights.
You did not mention your age or current health. I suggest a visit with the Doc before you find a woman that knows how to help you.
