I was watching the US Open today and somebody had about a 90 foot putt. The announcer said "this shot is no gimmie"...ya think?
On another hole, the Australian golfer, Baddeley, hit a shot that went over the green and down the hill. He chipped it to within 3 feet or so of the hole and the announcer said "Australians are really good at that shot". What kind of retarded comment is that? What does being Australian have to do with anything?
It isn't just today. They make stupid comments like this in other tournaments I've watched. I guess it is because they have to say SOMETHING and can't come up with anything better.

Freethinker is asking a question. Freethinker asks questions often. Not every second, but he's asked his share... y'know... of questions. This will be his third, in fact. And... here comes an answer from Anthony Spears. It's no good. That was a baaad answer, but a tough one. It's really difficult to get inside the minds of those announcers. I think he's going to call it a night.

Actually if you listened to the rest of the "Australians are good at that shot" comment... he explained it... that the sand dune courses in Australia lead you to end up hitting that type of shot a lot and therefore, more practice at that shot, therefore "Australians are really good at that shot." If you watched the next shot, you would have seen Tiger Woods an American hit nearly the exact same shot and he skulled it over the green and took a double bogey...
Now I'm not saying all announcers are always good... I can't stand Roger Maltbie... but in this case, they were fine.
Oh, and the "90 footer is no gimmie" listen hard and hear the sarcasm.
