There are numerous laws which restrict speech if it is reasonable to expect that it will incite violence or cause civil harm or inevitable injury or death.
This is not a restriction on free speech - it's common sense to expect that an individual has a responsibility to reasonably know that burning the American flag at a veterans' convention or preaching white power at an NAACP convention won't be received with a lot of positive enthusiasm.
We simply have to demonstrate a little intelligence when we exercise our rights.
As a side not, I do not know how I would react if a group (supposedly "exercising their rights") demonstrated their ignorance and hatred at a military funeral of a member of my family - and that should concern both me and the members, especially the members.

The First Amendment must be interpreted to cover the right to speak out, so long as one does not threaten or advocate violence, liable or slander anyone. In addition, inflammatory and profane language should be prohibited in broadcasting.

If hate speech is defined as language inciting violence, then I support restricting hate speech. But some confuse "hate" with what they do not agree with, even if expressed in a strong tone.

The first amendment to our constitution protects even hate speech. If we started to pick and choose who had the right to speak in popular or unpopular speech, it would cross the boundaries of what our constitution was built on. Sometimes freedom can become a double edged sword. Although usually unsavory and hurtful, hate speech is not unlawful.

I do believe people are entitled to their own opinoin but I do believe it must be within reason. If someone feels strongthy about something then all the power to them if it gets to the point where it may spark and lead to violence and outbreak then it should be stopped and contained. As long as it dosent injure anyone else then stand up for what you believe in. That is what Amerca symbolizes today. The right to free speech.

There's no law prohibiting hate speech.. unless it's being used in a threatening tone to another person or party, it may then be classified as a hate crime if violence or other acts are involved. However, people are allowed freedom of speech.

H.R 1592 passed the House of Representatives on May 7..... It is in the Senate now. It will pass more than likely...what a shame that a country like ours is forced to pass laws to make our citizens behave like human beings instead of idiots.

Incitement is a crime but it requires hate speech that incites immediate action against a specific target....so this one is hard (but not impossible) to prove.
