...for contempt of religion? Kind of like the LaVeyan church of Satan (they don't really believe in Satan but still us the symbol)
After all there is no universally known symbol for Atheism and it's nice to wear your social regalia from time to time so people know where you stand on the social spectrum.

I'm not talking about the Pagan pentagram. I'm talking about the Satanic one with the goat in it.

i think any atheist who does this is just extremely hateful.
they know christians fear the devil so they want to be feared.

when i think if you believe in the devil you are stupider than any christian.

i mean he IS supposed to be evil so...

dont wear that symbol ANY MORE. it shows you want nothing but terror in the minds of the weak, and they have enought

we need no symbol btw, and if we did, we would use something that actually reprisents the majority of us, not a devil!

for all christians... the average atheist is not a devil warshipper, because he doesnt believe in the devil. this guy is just really pissed in life and wants revenge at some christians even though most of YOU are actually peaceful. the only ones i dont like out of you are the ones who think evolution isnt real. because it is. sorry but atheism is much more peaceful than something that has a devil.

The pentagram isn't a symbol of satan. Look up pathagorean societies. It was originally used by secret societies deemed heretical because they used mathematics. I am a pagan, and we adopted the pentegram, just as satanists did. That does not mean that Pagans are Satanists. As for Athiests...why do they need a symbol? If they do not put faith in any god, why would they have a symbol? Aren't symbols usually representative of some deity or other? I am a wiccan with a leaning toward Kemetic Reconstructionist beliefs, so I often wear a scarab, sacred to ancient Egyptians. The atheist were no symbols because nothing is the symbol for nothing. Would you have them wear a big zero because they believe in zero gods?

Good idea, but the pentagram is not really a satanic symbol. It was published in a book in the late 1700's but not widely used or known until the 1960's when Hollywood popularized it. Prior the the 1700's it was used as a luck charm, representative of the 5 knightly virtues or the 5 wounds of Christ, as well as other older meanings.

The pentagram is not originally a Satanic symbol. The pentagram is actually suposed to represent venus and the patern venus makes throught they sky as observed from earth. Try to look up the actual meanings of ancient symbols before assuming that the popular culture application of those symbols is correct. You would be surprised at what you learn.

NH Baritone: The pentegram is not originaly a wiccan symbol it predates the wiccan religion by a few thousand years. It does however date back to the grooved wear people of western europe,

Many who belong to American Atheists use the atom with an A in the center. You can see the symbol it if you click on the link below. It's on the upper left hand corner of the page. I have the earrings, which can be purchased at that site. The pentagram is used by Wiccans.

Pentagrams are the symbol of Wicca. The Church of Satan is a tiny organization with a decent PR program. They hardly represent most Atheists. Personally, I more identify with secular humanists or western Buddhists than with anything else, and I'm much more likely to think through individual topics than to throw my hat into the ring with some philosophical group that may not represent the interests I hold dear.

Atheist and agnostics wouldn't be likely to use pentagrams or Satanic symbols since those are related to religious organizations of a sort.

Why would I choose a pentagram as "social regalia?"

Why would I care to identify myself "on the social spectrum?"

I wear no religious symbol of any kind.

I used to wear it when I was in a metal band just to piss off Christians. It was never really my symbol though.

And there are atheist symbols that we could pick.
