I'm joinin the Army and going for Infantry. My parents keep trying to convince me not too and to get a better job like mechanic or something. Today I talked to a Iraq war vet who was in infantry and is all messed up in the head from the war. He told me DON'T join the Army at all. He also told me that every job has to fight. He said he has friends that were mechanics and satellite experts that fought more than him.... How come every job you get you have to fight and what do ya'll think about the whole situation?

I wanna fight. That's the point of me joinin the infantry. That's why I'm joining. I just don't get why a mechanic would fight more than an infantryman.

To 4HIM:

Sole surviving son status applies to draft registration and is based on being the survivor of someone who has died as the result of military service. The mere fact that a man is the only child or only son does not qualify him for consideration. I believe that the rules for those on active duty allow them to apply for this status if the soldier is a survivor of someone who has died as a result of military service.

They would not fight more than an infantry soldier, but they do fight.

If you join to fight in war, I suggest you read a book.

Secret Commandoes: Behind Lines With The Elite Warriors of SOG.

In this book the author, SSGT (now Maj. Ret) John Plaster says that he trained for over a year and a half to fight as a Green Beret and then, when he came to Vietnam, realized he knew NOTHING.

The point is that you should seek to learn everything you can about fighting in a combat before you are shipped out. Then hope you learn enough to stay alive once you arrive in-country.

Army, Marines, Navy . . . doesn't matter. If you are going to be a warrior, study with the best. Rangers/Delta, Recon or SEAL/S.

I'm sure that the Army is the same as the Marine Corps in the sense that every Marine is a basically qualified rifleman. Even the officers. In fact if the officers were rank insignias they are more likely to get shot at. I was in the air wing. But, if base is being attacked I was an infantry man. Some men and women do get messed up in the head due to combat and the things you see. It's called PTSD. The VA is set up to offer counseling for those affected.

You will learn this in Basic Combat Training that while yes you do have a certain MOS that you are expected to master however, You, Me and every other soldier are RifleMen first. Different units choose to utilize there assetts differently so you will have some Fobb's where certain MOS'S are what we call FOBBIT'S which means that they spend the entire deployment and never go outside the wire. Im over here now and ive been out with everything from Infantry to MI, I would listen to your parents and try to get a better job because of the job opportunities after the army!

Joining the army is about fighting. That's what you do, you're a SOLDIER. Every MOS goes through the same basic training. If you don't wanna fight, don't join.

Its all about the unit you get assigned to and what part of Iraq you go to. My husband is infantry and hasn't even shot his gun since he got there 8 months ago.

First of all, go in as an officer.

All parents don't want to see their children running off into the military. They want better for their children, just understand that no matter what they love you.

as far as every job fights, i have not one clue. But what you see over there will mess you up in the head. I have known a few people to be over there and come back all messed up.

Be safe and ask your enrolling agent to help you better decide

good luck

If you want to join the military, but don't want to get involved in actual ground confrontations, you should avoid the Army and Marines. I would suggest the Air Force or the Navy.

i think what he is trying to say is that...

to be a soldier..well,of course you must fight..but that is the REAL fight..kill or be killed...where's the future if you died?

what he is trying to say is that his mechanic & satellite experts friends fight more than he does because they struggle in life to be at the top..while he is fighting just to live another day...

I believe that all of the military extra needs have been outsourced to Halliburton or one of their subsidiaries so that all military personnel can be used in combat. The military has been radically changed by Rumsfeld so they don't need as many people.
