i went to go get the lawn mower and there was a mom cat that was hissing and 8 babies behind her .she kinds of trusts me but she will not let me get to her kittens i feed her and give her water but she wont let me examin the kittens. she loves me she lets me pet her all the time but when it comes to her kittens ouch and i have to look at them to see theyre health she arches her back and then she puts down her ears against her head and hisses. then she swats me. i want to touch the kittens for a full check up bit im afraid she will abandon them and i already have enough animal so how can i help her and the kittens

I'd say for now leave them alone. Eventually they will venture out, playing or exploring, and you can check their health then. It's great that you do this for her. Thank you.

Nobody can take care of those kittens like she can! I don't think you need to worry about her abandoning them - she seems quite protective ( which means her instincts are perfectly intact! ) She will eventually become less protective as they get older and she starts weaning them. At that point, feel free to check them all out.
Also, if she has 8 babies it is likely not her first litter, so she knows what she's doing!
Keep feeding her and making sure she has plenty of FRESH water to drink. They will all be fine as long as she keeps her milk supply up.

The best that you can do for her and her kittens for now is to keep feeding her. Leave plenty of food and water. You have a kind heart, a lot of people wouldn't care.

wait till the mommy cats asleep then go quietly get the kittens 2 at a time then check them out when your done carefully put them back 2 at a time

Just put something soft out there for them to sleep on and keep leaving food and water out. Leave the rest up to nature.

just give the cat momma a clean water and a cat food. just leave the baby alone.
