YES! The beetles are very comfortable! The y give plenty of head and legs room. The back seat in a hard top has more leg room then the convertibles. I own a 2000 beetle and It is only meant to seat 4 but I have managed to seat 5 in there and was a little crowded but nothing unbearable. I do not recommend it though.
I love my car. My car has been great to me. Just keep up with the normal maintance jsut like any other car and you will love one too.
Plus a beetle or any European car (VW, Audi, BMW, Etc.) has to be able to with stand a crash on the Autobahn in Germany exceeding 120+ MPH and have everyone survive and be able to walk away. Also they hug the road unlike any other car you have probably ever driven. They don't allow the air to get underneath the car and push it all around.
If you got a beetle I am pretty sure you would love it!

If I recall, around the 1970 time VW started putting an electric fuel cut off on the carb. It was a silver cylinder sticking straight out of the side of the carb with a wire running to it with a connector on the end. Check to see if you have voltage to it when the ignition is on. The distributor cap should NOT move when cranking the engine! Sometimes the cap would get reinstalled improperly and it could be that the rotor is hitting the inside of the cap, causing it to move. Be certain that it is seated properly. To test the ignition, remove the cap and use a test light or volt meter, test for voltage at the contact points. To do this, rotate the crank by hand (try to push up on one side of the belt and pull down on the other to get the crank to turn until the points open) You must see voltage at the points. Remove one of the spark plugs, the easiest for you to get to, and put the plug wire back on it. Have someone crank the starter. You watch for the plug to spark. If these events pass, move on to the fuel system. I cannot recall where the fuel filter is on the year but I would look at that first. Being that you ran the system dry, you may have sucked up the crud in the bottom of the tank and I may have blocked the filter. Again, check the fuel cut off for operation. Personally, I would get an old windex spray bottle, clean it out, put some gas in it and with the air cleaner off, spray some gas into the intake, and crank the engine to see of it will atleast 'sputter' or act like it will start. If it does, it points to the clogged fuel system. !! Be careful not to have the 'spray bottle' of fuel near the engine when cranking for if it backfires, it could cause the bottle of gas to explode !! Good luck

I am going to respond with relation to the OLD beetle.
1) They are comfortable if you are in the front seat
2) They are comfortable if you are alone in the rear seat and under 5'8" and no one tall is sitting in the front seats.
I really like the old air cooled beetles. Maybe its the uniqueness of it or a bit of the hippy still left in these old bones, but it is fun to drive and NO ONE ever gets angry with a beetle (just stay out of the fast lane - especially going up hills).
Easy to work on, reliable if they are maintained, and pretty basic.
(my 2 cents).

Are you referring to the Classic or the new Beetle?
I own a 1972 Super Beetle, and I find it comfortable, and easy to drive. It is also fairly roomy for a Beetle, as the Super Beetles are bigger all-round than the older and lower-powered models.
I am not sure how the older models are, in terms of comfort and space.

I have a 2007 New Beetle Convertible, I love love love my car! I wouldn't trade it in for anything else!! Yes its very comfortable, front and back seat both! New beetles have more room inside then they appear. You can easily fit 4 people with no problem.
