In every jurisdiction I know, the only jail time you do for a first time DWI is when you are arrested. Once you are sentenced, you have to pay a fine or do community service, complete a alcohol-assessment, and are put on probation. But I have never seen additional jail time for a first time offender.

It varies from State to State. A first time offense is probably going to more fines and community service type punishment than jail for most. Especially if you've got a clean record. This is really your chance to wake up and realize what a break, allbeit expensive one, you have been given. Thank your lucky stars you didn't kill anyone and learn from this experience. You may have to take some sort of class as well as the time spent helping the community and paying your fines.

Yes a dumb thing to do and we all have done something stupid in our lives this one is yours. It depends on what the laws are in your state. You will probably not go to jail so to speak there is a real problem with over crowding in this country everywhere they more then likely will go after your money and license and perhaps some kind of AA meetings.
Just don't do it again or it could get ugly.
