what would have happened to all those hippies in 1960's who left USA illegally if the Canadians had sealed the border.
its ok to run from your obligations during Vietnam war but its not ok if someone else runs from their country to find a better life?

katj: you truly show that you have no idea what you are talking about. i am not asking you why the hippies ran....the issue here is that they did for whatever reasons they had and illegals are doing the same for the reasons they have.
n obviously you wouldn't consider people dying of poverty just as bad as going to vietnam. take my advice....go 6 blocks away from your house....you know, take a look at the rest of the world and then be the judge of who has the right reasons to cross the borders illegaly.

katj: yes i am comparing the hippies with illegal aliens...you got that part right. the question apparently needs a working brain to analyze. obviously no two situations are same. a good example, that you will NOT understand is the Vietnam war and the war in Iraq. the question here is more ethical and it clearly points to the outcome of citizens of usa and Mexico leaving their countries illegally. to you, hippies dodging the draft was a legitimate thing compared to illegals trying to provide a living for their family. illegals don't come to usa and become millionaires by robbing 200 dollars that you have saved up. they work pretty depressing jobs and they obviously don't come here intending to rob us clean. and if you think that illegals are robbing money from the government then maybe you should be asking the government to fix that and other things like the fence on the border instead of showing your racist hate towards illegals.

And you prove that you are a racist by putting the legal immigrants in your explanation. Legal immigrants living in usa are much better off then people living abroad. The only thing you will see from a legal immigrant living in usa is their culture, language, religion etc….but you will not see where they came from and what conditions they had to live. Call your great grandfather and he’ll tell you all about it. I have been to 4 different 3rd world countries, born and raised in usa and no I am not Hispanic but I still support the amnesty bill because it will strengthen our borders, illegals would have to pay numerous fines (which will go towards border security) and they will be given legit documents so they will have to pay taxes, learn English (yes it says that in the BUSH’s amnesty bill) and pretty much do everything that a citizen or legal residence would do. Its all in the bill..take a look before you start babbling what lou dobbs said on his racist show.

Hippies took their problem and ran at no cost to us.
However the Illegals come here and we have to pick up the tab, or their problems.

WOW! That's some comparison... the people that dodged the draft were not all "hippies" they were 18 year old boys just out of high school, whose biggest problem was whether or not a girl in their class liked them... then the lottery.. their number got pulled to go fight in a war they knew nothing about except that people were dying and without proper training there was a good chance they to were going to die too- so let's compare somebody running for their life as opposed to someone just entering a country to make more money....
edit: sweetie.. you are comparing the draft dodgers to the illegal aliens here trying to make more money... you show you have no idea what you are talking about... thanks for trying though.. - what would have happened to the draft dodgers if they refused to go to Vietnam... as opposed to people that come here to make money.... again in there lies your answer... stop comparing apples to oranges and embarrassing yourself- and since you called draft dodgers "hippies" I thought I would be nice enough to inform you about why they ran not that they were all "hippies".. Intelligence and education will get you every time
and as far as that 6 blocks comment, I live in one of the largest states in the US with the most immigrants and migrants... I have a great look at the rest of the world and I can judge just fine for myself .... thanks though....

No moral american citizen had a duty to fight in the Vietnam War. The war was to prop up French imperialism, and then god knows what for. It was a mass murder of brown people and we had no business there.
My father in law was an emotional mess for twenty years after his time in vietnam, until the vet's center finally gave him the courage to admit that he was used, abused, lied to, and screwed by the u.s. govt and that he took part in mass murder of innocents. hard to live with. let's not inflict that on anyone else, shall we?

How many draft dodgers are we talking about? These weren't hippies, they were guys who didn't wanna die in VietNam. They were called conscious objectors. I read about this when they were threatening to bring the draft back. See, Canada didn't approve of US in that war either. So they let guys in who were running to get away from the US military draft.

Who said it was okay to run to Canada???
** Hey - to the person who gave me the thumbs down - I wasnt' saying whether I agreed with it or not you idiot. I just asked for more factual information i.e. "who said it was okay...". I was trying to point out that this quesiton has too many holes in it to give a great answer. The asker was using his own opinion and asking for a factual answer - doesn't make sense.
Go ahead, give me more thumbs down!!!

My my my some people are living in a dream world aren't they? Before you post questions trying to compare the two as being the same thing - perhaps you should educate yourself with them first.
