Well I answered it once before too.
2 weeks ~ 1/2 hour on each side each day for 2 weeks.
You will burn a little (pinkish) in the 1/2 hour each side. That will eventually turn tan. NO SUN SCREEN USED.

With all due respect to your dad, I think he gave you bad advice. Getting a sunburn is not the way to get a tan. In fact, the sun can be your worst enemy, even if you're a guy. I know you're not particularly concerned about wrinkles, but the sun is deadly for the skin, and can often cause skin cancer. If you feel you must tan, I wouldn't stay out for more than 15 minutes at a time, and avoid the sun during the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., when the sun's rays are the strongest. If you want to look really tan, really fast, I recommend self-tanner, and ditch the sun altogether. Take it or leave it. If you have to spend a lot of time in the sun, use sunscreen, apply it liberally every two hours. All the while you are tanning, you are damaging your skin. That beautiful golden color is the skin's way of telling you it's being damaged. It's actually a protective mechanism. Maybe it won't show up right away, but in time you'll see the effects.

You need to start with a short amount of time like 15 minutes on each side, but make sure to use some like 15 block sunscreen that way you wont burn after about a week of this you will be able to lay out 20 to 30 minutes with less sunscreen or a tanning oil, if you get burned bad you will lose all the tan you have gotten previously, its best to take it slow.

Well to me it sounds like you have fair skin? If that's correct a base tan should take you about a week if you want a signifigant glow. Just lay out for about 2-4 hours each day and flip over on each side every 1/2 hour. Make sure you apply lots of sunscreen so your skin doesnt burn too too much. A base tan is usually so you don't burn when you use a lower SPF tho?

Hi,
It sounds like you are quite light complexioned. I would recommend either sunless tanning products or very very gradual tanning. Put on at least an spf 8 sunscreen and spend 15 mins face up, 15 mins face down. Moisturize morning and night. Try to get 1/2 hour of sun every day. Exfoliate thoroughly but dont be too rough. DONT let yourself burn! Its really really bad for you, hurts, and kills the tan you have built up! Your skin gets damaged when you burn so it regenerates itself more quickly!
Suntanning is really not good for you. I do enjoy sunbathing, but I realize it would be better to stay out of the sun and use a sunless tanner.

I know we all want a tan pigment. But if you are light skinned please be careful. You deffinately need a sunscreen of some sort if you are light comp like a red head. My friend was a red head with a light pigment and got melanoma 5 yrs ago it went in to remission he got married 2 yrs ago his wife had a baby 1-2 wks before he died last month of melanoma cancer. dont want to scare you just want you to be advised. Please be careful it isnt worth being tan if you are going to get cancer.

Tanning is not a good idea because it can increase your chances of getting skin cancer. Your skin gets darker in the sun to defend itself. Any change in in the color is bad. You should just accept yourself as it is and not worry.

I would recommend not doing it. If you choose too though, use sunscreen, tan gradually and do this in the morning if you can, when the sun's rays are not so hot.
