so i have a tattoo...it's about a month and 1/2 old now. if you noticed my other questions, i was having problems with it from the beginning. it was breaking out and i though i determined it was from over moisturizing. the break out were on the skin around the ink...not on the ink itself...although i just noticed a bump on the ink...ugh!!!!!!!!!

so i stopped putting anything on it...at all. no a&d...no lotion.

well i'm still breaking out. i put lotion on it maybe 3-4 times since tops and NOT A LOT. this didn't happen with my other tattoo...this one's on my stomach...not a place i'm prone to break outs. they're not quite zits...they do pop...sort of...well i just don't know WHAT they are, or what caused them, or what i can do to STOP causing them!!!!!

now the spots will become scars. any thoughts or advice....any tattoo artists??? please help!!!

would a scar product such as mederma have an effect on the ink?? it is completely healed.

don't tell me to see my artist. tks!

i have ALWAYS used A&D. i thought that's what caused it in the beginning. so i didn't use anything for a week or so. then i very lightly applied unscented dye free lotion just a time or two and the bumps started to come back. just one or two.

it def. wasn't an allergic reaction to the ink...i would have def. been able to tell that. and i have been using the lotion for the rest of my body, including on my stomach pre-tattoo.

the best way i can describe it is as a breakout...i would wake up with one or two and then a few more. i didn't do anything to treat them because at the time it was still healing. then they went away and now one or two have come back in the same spots and there's one in a new spot.

i need to know what is safe to use to treat them...what won't effect the ink, if anything?? and is mederma safe to use to lighten the scars....because just as zits on your face, they go away but there's still red scar-y spots.

Two things come to mind sight unseen...granulomas from a reaction to the ink, or you are fighting a bit of a skin infection, likely staph. Either way, you need to see a doc for an evaluation - it is obviously not from the aftercare product or it would have resolved by now.

This sounds so much like an ink allergy. You need to be treated for it. If you don't want to see an artist, see a doctor. You need to either be given antihistemines to stop the reaction, or remove the offending ink. You can't just ignore it. It will turn into a big scarred mess.

Please contact a doctor.

I got a tattoo about 2 years ago, and the same amount of time went by that has passed for you and I too had red bumps all around it, I freaked out, but just thought it was part of it, (my only tattoo) anyway, I kept doing what I was doing, and they went away, have never had an issue with it since, my guess was its just the way our body reacts to it?

I was told to use plain lubriderm lotion twice a day on in for a week until it had healed. I've had no problems with it. Maybe it would work for you?

Without seeing it, it sounds like you are having an allergic reaction to the moisturizer that you are using......
Clean the area with anti-bacterial soap, with your hand, not
a wash rag.................blot dry with a towel..............then try
another moisturizer... since you didn't say what you were
using, I will say that you try, Basitracin, Neosporin, the juice
from an Aloe plant.......or Bert's Bees Cuticle cream.
The Berts Bees is all natural...............
good luck with your choice...........hope everything works
out ok..............
