Midge is paranoid. She has that imaginary persecution complex seen more often in evangelical Christians, although one sometimes hears the same whining from the conservative Catholic press.

The media hate all religions equally. Sells papers.

There's one exception: when the Muslims threaten to riot. Then the media fall over each other sucking up to "peaceful" Islam (the same way her pope puckered up after the Muslims got bent out of shape when he recited a true statement about them from an old book). After all, the media can't make money with the presses burnt to the ground, like some Muslims did over Miss World in Nigeria. Maybe Midge should ask Pope Benny to restore the CDF's power to torture and execute people.

If Midge thinks the Catholic Church gets bad press, she should pay attention to atheism coverage. A few months ago, CNN held a panel discussion on atheists in the USA, with only religious people on the panel. When was the last time CNN did a panel discussion on Catholics in the USA while managing not to include a single Catholic on the panel? Reporters still parrot, "There are no atheists in foxholes." Do you think Katie Couric would still have a job if she'd said "There are no Catholics in foxholes"?

I'm sorry but it would help if you posted the comment from Midge that we're supposed to comment on.

And I saw news stories about the ad taken out by a Catholic organization against "The View" and Barbara Walters for targeting Catholicism negatively.

The fact is that the Catholic church has seen fit to comment on political, and social issues as well as religious ones. And those comments are addressed to everyone, not only Catholics. The church is seeking to effect changes in society not according to the personal choices of its members, but through legislation, forcing ALL of us to live according to the wishes of the Catholic church.

Add to that the fact that the Pope is a very influential figure throughout the world, not just within the church.

If the Catholic church chooses to insinuate itself into the lives of everyone, Catholic or not, then it and its adherents will simply have to get used to increased discussion, both negative and positive by the media. If they don't want to get tackled they should probably stay off of the field. Other people and organizations of great influence suffer this constantly, why should the Catholic church be any different when it seeks a position of far reaching influence?

I do not believe the media loves or hates anything.

But they do like big controversial stories and they know that almost anything connected to the Catholic Church will be both big and controversial.

The biggest problems with religion and the media are:
+ They make big stories out of little things
+ They some ignore big and important things
+ Do not understand the Church or its teachings
+ Make a lot of mistakes in reporting religious stories (Catholic or not)
+ Do not publish apologies or corrections when they misrepresent the facts.

With love in Christ.

The media is predominantly liberal. Therefore, many of the social stances the Church takes (for example: abortion, euthanasia, birth control, same-sex marriage, etc) all fly in the face of liberal values. The liberally driven media will take every opportunity it gets to demean the Catholic Church.

The media doesn't hate the catholic church, Pentecostal ministers hate the catholic church because it refuses to share its money with the greedy liars. The only people continually defaming the catholic church are born again losers

since i don't like the word hate i will say they are biased against the Rcc. the Catholic church has a long standing history due to IMO the fact the media is more liberal and the Church more conservative. they love to bash that which goes against the grain and stands up for what is morally & ethically against the mainstream liberal view.

If people do not believe in the Catholic church, then the media does not follow (ratings). Remember the little boys that got poked.

The media hates all Christians.

Why?

Probably because most in the media are Christ rejectors.

But only God knows for sure.

Judging by the week-long hoopla on CNN when Pope John Paul II died, it doesn't.
