I would like to re paint my bed room, Im thinking a deep blue, something soothing and relaxing, but yet that will fit into my tropical theme, Im kinda going for more of a polynesian theme. I like the Dark browns with the tropical accent. If any one has any suggestions on what color to go with and pictures I could look at that would be great thank you!!! Also suggestions on how to paint like just the walls leave the celing white or accent colors for trim and celing or whatever!!! Thank you

my room is pretty big, also it doesn't have your regular 4 walls I have 7 walls do to the set up of my room! I have two long ones and then 5 shorter ones its hard to explain. Also my bed is built into the dormer window so it like a little nook! Also around the corner of my bed there is another nook with my desk built into by my other window! im 22 and want a more calm grown up look , but I want to keep it fun and tropical!

There are many things to consider when you decide to paint a room, by far the most important being, ''Which direction does your room face?''. If your room faces North, you won't want to use a cold blue, because the room will feel too cold in the winter months. If it's facing South, don't choose a warm blue... you'll feel suffocated come the summer months. But congratulations on your choice of blue for your room... blue is by far the best color choice for relaxation in a bedroom. And if you choose a robin's egg blue or a clean sky blue, you'll find your room appears larger and airier... don't believe me? Take a look at the sky... how big does it look??

Though you don't say what your furniture looks like, I'll hope it's in keeping with your liking of dark browns. Brown and blue together are fantastic! Add some silver accents and maybe a small hint of red somewhere, and you're on your way to a zen feel in the room. Don't forget to add a touch of black to ground everything together. I'll add some links every now and again for pics...

If you like the color, turquoise and dark brown with sterling silver accents are all the rage... and very zen...

Keep in mind when painting your ceiling, you may not want to leave the ceiling white... I suggest going 3 or 4 shades lighter than the walls. This will make your room appear larger. Use a blue on the same paint chip colors you choose the blue from. Do the ceiling this color. You can also do the trim this color, or go with a european white as opposed to a plain, stark white.

Whatever you do, keep in mind that when you paint your walls, they will darken as they dry, only achieving the final color 72 hours after painting. Also, the ceiling always appears darker than the walls, as the ceiling absorbs 20% less light than the walls do.

Enjoy your new room!

This sounds edgy but try a medium or darker turquoise with a gloss or something to give some texture.. I'm not sure what the technique is called but you can streak glosses over paint for a shadowy look. It would look scrumptious with browns, greens, violets, or oranges. Cream would be a nice neutral and even other blues would be really nice with it. and It would satisfy a tropical theme too but it would be a little dark and have that element of mystery.

Try to also consider mixing your own custom colour if you don't see what you like. I do recall someone telling me once you should mix it all at once and put it in one large tub so you don't have to keep mixing more paint as you work and risk getting slightly different shades.

Deep blue would be pretty, but before you paint, get a few quarts (the small cans) of different shades and painting huge squares about 3 feet by 3 feet to see what shade you like best! There is nothing worse than thinking you really like a color then paint the whole room and it doesn't work after all! Blues come in so many different shades, from purplish to greenish so try out several before making your final purchase! You can always use the remainders in the quart cans for painting chairs, tables, other accessories.

Lowe's and all the other places sell a paint kit that has paint tools that will allow you to outline the area so that you can leave the area you don't want paint on,or you can buy painting tape to tape off the area you don't want to paint
