Trying to decide on whether the V6 or the V4 would be better on the Sonata 2007? Looking to buy one soon....I want good gas mileage but what does the V6 offer other than power?

It's an inline 4. There haven't been any V4s in cars for about 30 years.

Coincidentally, one of the last cars to have a V4 was the Ford Taunus, a relation of the Hyundai Stellar, which was the predecessor of the original Sonata.

The V6 offers power at the cost of more fuel consumption. The whole reason for V6s is to get more power than a straight 4 without the cost of a V8.

These engines are too new to say anything regarding their long-term reliability yet. So if you're considering a Sonata the only thing to consider at this point is the economy/power tradeoff.

Depends on what your needs are. If you only carry 2 to 3 ppl in your car then the 4 cylinder should be just fine. It has 160+ ponies and 164 ft-lb tq. Thats more than enough to get around town and its rated at 24/34 mpg city/hwy. Thats not bad at all. The V6 has 234 ponies and is for anyone who needs or wants extra grunt. For me, the 4 cylinder would suffice and the V6 doesn't get you much more except for power and maybe refinement. But from my experience the 4 is plenty smooth and quiet. So with gas being $3 a gallon for regular, I'd save some cash and go with the 4

Last year I rent 2006 Sonata V6. Had it for a week. I drive average 50 to 60 miles a day. Plenty of power but little bit noise on the freeway. Got it on full of the tank. Before i return it by end of the week, there is only about 1/4 tank left. you get about up to 500 miles on hwy. Depending on what you drive.

V6: more power, sometimes more technologically advanced than straight-fours

straight-4 (or in-line 4, not V4 - There are no V4s in cars in the U.S.): better fuel economy, easier to replace spark plugs and spark plug wires, 4 spark plugs instead of 6 in a V6, smaller crankcase capacity (less oil), usually louder and more NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness), sometimes the parts are cheaper

Do you get the idea that "the last don" guy-who always makes a joke about pushing Hyundais to the junkyard, had his girlfriend stolen by a guy in a Hyundai, or maybe wishes he could buy one, but can't??? Can anyone really be so angry at a car that he sits on the computer for hours making the same joke over and over????

Having owned 4 cylinders and 6's, I have to say that I prefer the 6cyl. For one, the fuel consumption is negligible; I get 27-29 mpg on the hwy. I feel safer with extra power in that I can accelerate with confidence on and off ramps as well as maneuver cleanly and quickly on the hwy. Hope this helps.

For the value of your dollar, V6 is the way to go (easier to sell if for some reason you have to sell it later on); the power train matches the car weight.

the difference in engine size is minor, but for overall durability go with the v6 the amount of fuel mileage you save will be minor and the bigger engine will last longer
