Recently i have just been proposed the diagnosis of manic depression, or bipolar. My psychiatrist wants to put me on Seroquel, an antipsychotic (the category name is scary to me) and am very hesistant about going on such a powerful drug. Id just like some feedback from those who have my type of bipolar (depressive) about Seroquel.

I took it for Major Depression as part of a study group; it seemed to work pretty well. I asked my doctor to put me back on Paxil after the study was over. Paxil was working well for me and I didn't feel like I needed something as strong as Seroquel.

A friend of mine is taking Seroquel for Bipolar DIsorder and he appears to be doing very well. He is more calm, not as manicky or hyper as he used to be.

i think seroquel can cure just about any behavioral problem lol...

This medication is used with or without other medications to treat certain mental/mood conditions (e.g., bipolar disorder, schizophrenia). Quetiapine is known as an anti-psychotic drug (atypical type). It works by helping to restore the balance of certain natural chemicals (neurotransmitters) in the brain.

This medication can decrease hallucinations and improve your concentration. It helps you to think more clearly and positively about yourself, feel less nervous, and take a more active part in everyday life. Quetiapine can help prevent severe mood swings or decrease how often mood swings occur.

it works on many people but it is very hard on the liver.
During manic episodes some bipolar people can become psychotic without knowing they are psychotic. Ask your friends and family to let you know if you start acting differently.

You will probably have better results dealing with your bipolar disorder if you also have therapy with a counselor or psychologist in conjunction with medication.
