I think it comes from the fact that SOME, not all, Christians can be very condescending to nonbelievers. Then, if the nonbeliever can't be convinced, the Christian gets offended and the insults fly on both sides. I've seen just as many Christians put down atheists as I've seen atheists put down Christians.

If you really wonder, maybe you should listen to what they're saying.

It's typical of many "Christians" to assume that anybody who criticizes the faith is doing it just to be "wicked." You have to understand that there are a lot of people - myself included - who find the religion genuinely objectionable on moral grounds, and unacceptable on intellectual grounds. We're not just picking on you for kicks.

If you are a non-believer and you bother nobody you should be left alone. But yet the christians must come and insult us and yell that we are going to hell. That is why christianity is declining and is under attack.

Sounds like another persecution complex in the making. Have a closer look at the history of Christianity, and you might understand why most people in the world don't ascribe to it.

It's not a Christian thing, it's a faith thing. Believing something without any proof at all is just a silly thing to do.

Flying Spaghetti Monster, God, Russell's teacup, the historical basis of Fred Flintstone... all are silly to take without some relevant proof to back up the claims.

Probably because so many Christians are blind paranoid idiots who still live in the dark ages.

Yes, that is one reason. So is resistance to give-up "self-rule." We live in a society that promotes self over dependence on God.

They put it down because it is insane. I don't know why they ever picked it up.
