No I believe the dietary laws were there to keep them heathy.

John MacArthur apparently has his head firmly buried in his rear. If you want to know why the Jews have ANY of their laws and what the purpose is, then ASK A JEW.
The Hebrews could eat just about anything the pagans could eat, except for a few categories for instance, fish needing to have both fins and scales before Jews could eat it, AND pagans also ate these fish.
And some others like lobster and other seafood the Jews didn't (and don't) eat because they are bottom feeders on the fecal matter of other sea animals and the Jews did not believe this was good for the body and soul - it had nothing to do with pagans eating it.
As for not eating meat and milk together, that comes from three places in the Torah where the Jews are told not to eat a kid (meaning a baby goat) that is boiled in its mother's milk.
Why? Because it would be horrifically cruel to the mother goat to see her baby boiled in her OWN milk.
This prohibition falls under the laws of preventing cruelty to animals in Judaism, and has nothing to do with whether pagans did it or not. Yes, Judaism forbids cruelty to animals. Even when they kill their animals for meat, the knife used to do it must be so absolutely sharp that the animal doesn't feel anything at all. If there is even the smallest nick in the knife it has to be thrown out lest it cause pain to the animal.
Don't believe anything you're told about anything having to do with Judaism if you're being told it by a non-Jew. Especially if you're being told it by religious non-Jews like Christians, INCLUDING preachers, because they have no clue and are not interested in learning the truth, either. They have their ignorance about it that they were taught, and it's part of their Christian agenda, and they are not interested in the real reasons that Jews follow those laws and have for thousands of years.
ASK A JEW why they follow the laws they do, rather than a non-Jew or you will get misinformation every time.

That's interesting. A lot of different religions have dietary laws of different kinds. Mormons dont drink coffee or tea or alcohol or use tobacco. Muslims also don't eat pork and observe a kind of Kosher esque law. It helps to set the group apart and allows them to be more physically recognizable.

No, I believe it was for health reasons. Pork is dangerous to eat, especially in the times before refrigerators. A lot of people are alergic to shellfish, and they didn't have much in the way of hospitals. The list goes on and on, but you get my drift. The one that got me was not eating meat and cheese together, did not understand that one, but science has recently discovered it really isn't healty. Strange, but true.
