When they seem to "hide themselves" by not showing you pictures (or maybe only showing you one and you've known them for a long time already), or have fakey looking ones.

If, after a reasonable amount of time, they don't want to meet or at least get on the phone, that's a major red flag. Online sites are merely a means of connecting. Eventually you have to make the relationship real, right? Just do it safely, etc. But don't be someone's pen pal or online buddy. That's lame, and it's enabling. Then you know they're just using you for companionship...or worse.

I look just like... (Tom Hanks) or fill in the blank with your favorite.
I use to think that on line relationships were a big thing to avoid, but then I thought, when one talks to a stranger, they usually can open up better than when they are talking to their acquaintances . So, maybe there is something to these things. Basically, I would believe people who have no real thought of ever meeting me, and I disbelieve people who are tying to impress me with BS. So, on line dating? I found my wife that way, but it was only through an email from a friend I knew. not one of those 'websites'.
Oh, and btw, I look just like a tv and movie star... Unfortunately, it is Rodney Dangererfield!

I don't do online dating...
Refusal to give a picture, get on a webcam...telling you he's been on business trips several times and disappearing for a long time.
It's best if you date a real, live person. You know, the kind you can touch?

honestly i dont believe almost anything anyone says about themselves on online dating sites, unless you have to pay for the site or something. just wait for someone in real life.

UMM ONLINE DATING IS DUMB........... AND POINTLESS...FOR ALL YOU KNOW THE 15 YEAR OLD BOY YOU ARE TALKING TO IS A 51 YEAR OLD WOMAN.....
IT IS SO SO EASY TO LIE ONLINE, SO WHY NOT DO IT??
MOST PEOPLE DO, AND PLUS THERE ARE MAJOR PERVES!!!!!
THIS WOMAN I KNOW, SHE IS LIKE A MOTHER TO ME NOW, WHEN SHE WAS 15 WAS TALKING TO A "16 YEAR OLD BOY" ONLINE, WELL THEY LIVED CLOSE AND AFTER A FEW MONTHS OF TALKING TO HIM HE GAINED HER TRUST, WELL ONE NIGHT SHE TOLD HIM TO COME TO HER HOUSE, BECAUSE THEY LIVED ONLY BUT 20 MINUTES AWAY FROM EACHOTHER....
WELL IT TURNED OUT HE WAS A 40 YEAR OLD PERVERT, AND HE RAPED HER WHILE HER PARENTS WERE AT WORK, HE TORTURED HER AND BURNT HER, AND IT IS HORRIBLE YOU CANT TRUST ANYONE!
