I think its pronounced "polly molly", my dad said thats the hardest metal out there... is that true?

All steel is man-made, there are no "natural" steels. Do you mean metals in general?

Hafnium Carbide is one of the hardest metals, with a Knoop hardness value of 2300. Tool steel is pretty hard and is easier to make something with, but it's Knoop Hardness is only about 850 - less than half as hard. Silicon carbide has a Knoop Hardness of 2480.

Your dad is probably referring to Chrome-Molly-Tungsten steel - it has a Rockwell hardness of "c" 52 and a tensile strength upwards of 268,000. This is not the "hardest metal out there" but among the metals that are commonly used, it's right up there with the best of them.
