I need to conduct a servey for a school project, I want to find out if Christians are the reason that those who aren't Christian don't want to be Christain. What is it that turns non-Christians off of the Christian religion?

Yes, the people, themselves, are a major turnoff for me. Couple them and their intolerant, close-minded attitude with the fairy stories in their favorite read and - voila! - instant atheist.

"Read what Jesus says about Christians" Umm, there were no Christians, yet.

No, Christians have nothing to do with why I don't want to be a Christian. Rather, my personal observations and thoughts have come to the following understandings:

-The New Testament is flawed both metaphysically and, in some instances, morally
-The existence of god is, at best, an unsupported assumption
-The reasoning behind both Creationism and ID are lacking, as well as inferior to scientific theories already in existence...and that's assuming that they deserve the title "science" to begin with (I would say that they don't).

Any one of those three could potentially be sufficient to tackle the other two, depending on the specifics of the case that's made for it/them. However, the third is not necessary to subscribe to theism in general, and the second is not necessary to automatically make the case for Christianity on its own.

But how Christians behave or speak has absolutely nothing to do with why I do not possess their beliefs.

Read what Jesus says about Christians in the parable about the seeds that fall on the ground.

Some sprout too fast, don't have good roots and eventually die. These are often the onse who are offensive and think they know everything. A Christian who has good roots, has studied the Bible for years and has real understanding would make a great friend.

I do find many Christians annoying in their single-minded view that they have "the truth" -- particularly when they are pushing their view onto me (and act completely shocked that I don't see things their way). But I don't want to be a Christian, because I don't believe in any gods, including the Christain god.

A lack of belief in gods precludes me from following any religion. Old testament fundamentalist god-botherers who call themselves Christian give real Christianity a bad name. Even so, it is not Christians that turn me awy from Christianity any more than it is Muslims who turn me away from Islam or Jews turn me away from Judaism. It is the illogicality of the whole religion thing which presumes the existence of an omnipotent, omniscient sky pixie with no evidence to support that view whatsoever.

No, at least for me, it's the basis for what they believe which made me decide to leave christianity. You find good christians and you find bad ones but you will find good and bad in every religion regardless.

I was raised baptist, I had plenty of church and sunday school and I just never believed all that which was being told to me.

Yes it is. I feel that Christians miss the point of Jesus teachings and life. Its more about the mythology and superstition, the death and resurrection, the"Miracles" saving us from our perceived sins. I think It should be about Jesus the man, the teacher, his examples of compassion, and peaceful love is what he was trying to say.

when people call themselves CHRISTIANS act like EVIL people. When people so called Christians force their believes onto people, w/out real understanding human psychology. That's what turn most people into non-believers or worst atheist. most people live in GREY area, that why when such believers come to those people and push them, they just turn them away from GOD.

I don't believe in god for one. If I did the Christian version (ie bible) is so full of contradictions, it is absolutely ludicrous.

The behavior of right wing Christians doesn't help their cause either.
