He said he would sell it to her for $1,300, but the only thing is that when you stop the car (brake) you have to put the car back in drive 1. Is this dangerous? Is it harmful to drive this kind of car, taking the driving test? Or should she get this fixed before taking the car?

It's an automatic, why put it into "drive 1"? If you gotta do something odd after stopping with an automatic transmission, then something be funky in Dallas!

This could be a serious and costly problem. There may be other problems as well. A $1300 car is not likely to be a jewel.

Your friend should have the car inspected by a mechanic BEFORE she buys. It's too late if she finds problems AFTER the purchase. Without an inspection, this car could cost way more than $1300.

No, the transmission will cost at least 1500, and it is an old car with a lot of miles. Look for another car in autotrader.com

Stay away from that one. Sounds like the transmission is burnt. The same problem occured in my '96 Grand Am. I had to replace the transmission. I would look elsewhere. Best wishes!!!

The car has high mileage, though I realize many older cars do. I don't know if the problem could be dangerous but it sounds as if it could be expensive.

The car does have a cute look though doesn't it?

If its an automatic take that piece of crap back and have her fix it, if its a manual thats normal if you come to a complete stop then you have to start back in first gear all over again.
