When it comes to cake I eat it all, fondant included. The only topping I will not eat is the stuff that is used to decorate the Dairy Queen ice cream cakes, its sort of a plastic, jellied slime.

i'm not sure what you're supposed to do, but I usually peel it off the cake with my fork and leave it on the side. really good bakers are able to roll it thin enough that it doesn't overwhelm the taste of the cake, but like anything, too much can be too much

Yes, but just a bit of it. If you happen to get a slice w/ all sorts of fondant roses or fruit designs, you can discreetly push it aside if it's too much for you. (it would be for me!)

It is edible so you could eat it. I've heard that many people don't because they just aren't sure what to do with it.

Fondant is made up of sugar and some other stuff so it's like many other icings just more "solid".

While it is edible, it's used primarily for decoration and does not taste very good.

Yes. It is edible.

However, it tastes HORRIBLE in large quantities. It's fine in thin layers though.
